I like the Hannibal ones the best but they are also pretty expensive. Heavy duty canvas and no poles.

I bought this one and very happy with it

I got it much cheaper as it was bundled with a roof rack and several other accessories.

I got mine from a bloke in brisbane, he has a 4wd shop though Im not sure what it's called.
I paid $185 for mine and its brilliant.
The biggest selling feature for me wasn't the price, it was the fact that all the other awnings I had seen only had plastic hinges for the legs.
Mine are alloy.

It seriously takes around 30sec to put up and maybe 2 mins to pack away.
If your interested let me know and I will pm you his phone number

They all seem much of a muchness to me, though Evo's point about alloy hinges does stand out as quality.

I've got an ARB awning, it is excellent, though both the tags on the zippers have come off as they simply wear through. I'll start another thread on how to rejuvenate the bags, as mine is looking grubby now.

Even on a still day, put out the ropes and pegs. #hardexperience

I have the OzTrail awning, it too has the plastic hinges, but at $189.00 at the time, I could not beat it.
Explorer Canvas made an extension to suit too....

but i guess i could of gone to a curtain maker and got a retractable holland blind and made something up myself (this is also a good cheap way of buying a projector screen)

How much are you prepared to pay for it. I have a deluxe Supa Peg awning.
Proper canvas. Also have an extra wall thats used as a wall or lifted with supplied poles extending the coverage. Very solid gear and locally made. Cannot fault it in anyway.

Geez, you blokes....

Here are some photos. This in no way suggesting that the ARB product is inferior, I am very happy with it and have noticed the same discoloration on other brands of awning as well.

See the dark spots. I can't wash them off.

See the missing zipper tabs

This is why; they simply wear out swinging in the wind. I found this one just as it was going to fall off.

See the missing zipper tabs

A couple of small zip ties will fix the missing tags and they
don't rattle.

Thanks trackabout I did have quick look at these and they did look good, evolution sent me some more detailed photos and they also looked and cheaper thanks Evo .

No worries mate,
I did look at the supapegs, and they were great! But I only had the cash at the time for the standard post one and I am a little lazy.
So I went with the cheaper/quicker option.

Just remember though, as soon as you get the awning  Mr Trackabout we need photos!!  ;D

I have the Supa -Peg also..

I went for the budget model that is 2mtr wide and 3mtrs out from the car , it,s not free standing I have to put 2 poles up , but from whjat I have seen all awnings need a pole put up in the intrests of keeping it from blowing over.

I liked the 3mtrs out from car as it can go all the way to the ground and still leave enough area to sleep under or put a pole at 1.5mts and then lean-too the last bit for added shelter.

In summarry I found the price $229 , the quality canvas and workmanship ,plus the different styles of set up of this budget awning far outweighed the negatives of not having a free standing unit.

This is the one I have
