I should have mentioned that...

The guys stick a hydraulic jack through the Transom on the dinghy and use it to increase / decrease trim of the outboard which of course increases / decreases speed, handling and turning ability. The driver pumps the jack to increase trim on the open water to increase straight line speed, then drain the jack to decrease trim in the tighter creeks and backwaters.

These tinnies are usually Stacer 315 Prolines (10 foot) with 30hp Yamaha outboards. There are other classes with smaller motors as well. The 30hp outboards are hitting top speeds of close to 75 - 80km/hr in a straight line.

They have a 'Championship serries' consisting of 6 events over the year.

The biggest event is on th 1st weekend in Feb each year, where they have a 'Dash for Cash' under lights on the Friday night, and then the Dinghy derby on the Sunday. The Derby is a big race, that covers the River and backwaters, and covers about 80kms or something like that.
