We currently have our 13 (at the end of the month) yr old niece down from QLD for a 3 week stay (shared between inlaws next door & here).   After 24hrs in Nanna's house we're balling on the phone to Dad wanting to go home.  Phone ran out of credit and Nanna has no internet & crappy phone service.  Looks like someone's coming to Aunty Kris sooner rather than later.....that's gonna be fun!  There was a reason god only gave me boys  ;D

Half an hour or so to kill before doing another late night run to pick up the not quite a teenager any more daughter from another Christmas party.

Thank heavens for my swag and being able to kill a bit of time.

Roll on February, Uni  is back in and she will be back in Melbourne, and l will be out of range.

Have 13yr old hormonal boy.  Love him to bits, but doubt he will make it out of his teens....

He has low ks and is in relatively good condition, all offers considered!!

(Just kidding)

Teenage son has just moved to Brisbane to do an actors course. He texts me " course is great and some hot girls" ....I text back "fantastic about the hot girls focus on the course"

The course costs $10,000.  :'(

Two boys 7 & 8. They sure can be challenging at times, but Every year with them gets better and better. The eldest loves nothing more than camping and fishing with me. The little one enjoys it but gets car sick from time to time.

Took my eldest on a Simpson crossing last year, and it was just me and him for about 5 days a great time, really good chance to get to know him even better, oddly enough i found a real level of respect for him. one particular day was a big one. we slept in our swags in an underground campground in Coober Pedy called rivas.  good fun but noisy as all get out. we were both awake at 5 am so rolled the swags and hit the road. that drive from coober to adelaide that many of you will know which is pretty desolate was a really nice time, made it all the way to renmark without one complaint from him. We stayed in a motel there with a very basic breaky, and he thought it was great. Can't wait to take them both back this year.

Wouldn't change a thing. Funny thing I've found since I've had them is that the things that seemed important to me pre kids, just don't seem to matter anymore.

I can relate to you. Me eldest son turns 10 tomorrow. There is not enough time in the day to hang out with him.

He is a smart arse. But in the good way, not the teenager way.

I Iove my 7 yo daughter for different reasons. But mostly because she is larger than life and tough as nails.

Cheers

There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

Mr 19 did a "live stream" today. Used 10Gig in a day and our billing cycle just started.

Went into him with a WTF? Got the response, "Oh, I thought it would only be around 5Gig".

Again WTF, why would you think this is reasonable. We have a 200Gig limit per month and there are five of us in the house.

About to disable his network card and see how long it takes him to figure it out. He is lazy and I have done all the work on his computer.

Bugger, only 190Gb to go? How will you manage? :-D

Bunyip

You would be surprised. I know what you are saying but with two teenagers and a 20 year old it really doesn't take that much  :D

I am also a little paranoid at the moment as I am looking for a job and cannot afford for the internet to be throttled.

Isn't it sad that we are that reliant on the internet tese dazes.

Bunyip

wsullivan

Yeah we are reliant, but I'm a network engineer so I think it's fantastic!  Hehe
I have our internet throttled for anyone except myself or my wife, kids and visitors get 1Mbps

;-)

Mean.... Yes, but we pay the bill!

Bunyip

I am in IT Ops and project management and just need to get a new router (damn Apple Airport is very limited) so that I can throttle as well as put some time of day restrictions on.

Found my 12yo daughter online after midnight on a school night.

Hey Bunyip
Found the Draytek routers great for this. Used to use them for VPN connections to my remote customers but also have time restrictions, throttling etc all built in. Also has vlan so you can separate them off if you want.
Can well recommend them but are a bit hexy.
It was well used to control my teenagers till it got hit by a lightning strike. Now using a cheap as chips TP-Link which doesn't have as many goodies. Teenagers now gone wild & maxxing out my connection. Might have to get a new router or throw the kids out onto the street. Latter sounds the go.

We have to start thinking about what sort of a world we are going to leave for Keith Richards after we are all gone.

Mine have also chewed thru 200Gig.  They have learnt how to speed their Internet up by slowing mine down, cheeky buggers.  I put a stop to that real quick. I think?

That's were bandwidth shaping is the best, give the kids x kbps and the rest is yours, and you preserve your allocation!
I play with enterprise routers so this sort of stuff is built in but....
I've never played with them but you can install custom firmware on certain consumer wifi routers that will control usage / bandwidth per user, and give you an easy to monitor gui too!
