Kit-E - if you don't want your egg rings I'll take them! We have a black hole in our camper that swallows egg rings so we never seem to have any. Always end up using a large cup to cut holes in pieces of bread to serve as rings.

Matto,

Why don't you try some edible options!  We don't mind the Onion Egg Ring or the Capsicum Egg Ring, but bread works too.

For the eldest .... just leave him  ... your not helping him by doing everything for him .
My 12 year old looks after himself , sets up camp / cooks for himself and others if required , my 5 year old little girl does her fair share around the camp as well , otherwise she doesn't come camping .. plain and simple .

Thanks ROckman, thats what we do, funny thing is he doesnt care.

He has recently started cubs and he was helping putting up tents, carried his bags so maybe he is on the up

Toasters for a gas cooker

They all fail, never get used

x1000. Haven't seen a good one yet. Had the flat one with the mesh on one side, could never figure out which way up it was supposed to go ??? , just burnt the toast anyway; the round base type that hold 3 bits of bread......just warms them up till they collapse on themselves. Now i just butter both sides of the bread and toast it on the hotplate, works a treat and the kids love it ;D

Also, never had a problem with our Waeco stand. Works pretty well I reckon.

Cant believe im the first to say...... 20L Solar Hot Water Camp Shower.

You know the one, its black plastic and you fill it up with water and put it in the sun all day and at the end of the day you get a shower - maybe!

Surely im not the only one that was stupid enough to buy one? To be fair to me I bought mine the fill up with water, hang up and use for washing dirty hands throughout the day. Brilliant solution to the how do I wash my hands without wasting precious drinking water or contaminating other water (meaty cooking hands) WRONG - it was a fail FAIL!

I'm reading thought this thread, thinking I must have some useless gadgets,  then Lori posts!!!

Yep the solar shower, used once in the shed somewhere.

Re the toasters, I use mine mesh side up, it works ok. But I'll be sure to try it mesh down next time.

I have the espresso thing, very problematic. Even when you use a larger cup the thing then spits boiling coffee at you because it comes out in such a rush. Trying not to admit it's uselss though.

Gave away the table with fold up chairs, it was useless!

As for the solar shower, got one and it works fine. You have to get all the air out so the black bit is in full contact with the water. As for travelling with it full, well just put it in a tub because it will most likely leak. Am I in denial again?

The steel/plywood ones are OK, had ours for many years, but dunno if they're still available.
But I agree, the plastic ones are crap........

haha at the toasters being used upside down! The mesh is there to heat up and give a uniform heat to the toast......mesh side down always ;)

I have used those black solar shower bags and they worked well for me at the time

Another useless one is those coleman toasters that hold 4 pieces of bread, they fall apart and take forever to unevenly toast the bread!

Love our mesh toaster and as above mesh side down, but I will admit that I didn't know this until a couple of months ago and thought they were a gimmick :)

Cant believe im the first to say...... 20L Solar Hot Water Camp Shower.

Hey, we love ours, got two of them and they get used on every trip.  And even when at home... when we renovated our bathroom several years back, we used them to shower in the garden for a week.  Kids loved it too.  Funny thing though, after several days of sitting them in the sun and having a short warm shower in the evening, my wife asked me why we couldn't just full them up with warm water from the laundry.  The silence was deafening, and we still laugh about it to this day.

We have 4 sitting in the garage, used on one trip and have lived in the shed for the past 10 years. Was in the sun all day long and didnt even get tempid. Were presents so cant throw them out. Still get asked if we still have them from the person who gave them to use.

Agree on the blue primus hotwater cube, we bought one, got it home, tested it, couldnt get warm water, took it back and exchanged it for the Coleman hotwater on demand unit, which has not missed a beat in 7 years. :) still going strong.

I think alot of us have those friends who come camping with you, and because you have the camper trailer think you have it all under control so dont offer to do a thing, and just watch you do everything, have to agree would love just once to be able to sit on my arse and watch others do everything, but pigs will fly first.

We have the solar showers and they work fine. We also will top them up with warm water from a billy etc. keep them out of the wind though, this makes a big difference

Yeah, these people don't really fit into the "most useless gadget" category but they do the same for your camping experience: diddly squat. What's worse is when these people don't even bring their own stuff as their attitude is "oh you have everything so why double up" which means they're under your nose for half the trip too (in my case this comment pertains to the wife's twin sister & her husband, God bless them!)
