I love how Labor were going on about 'don't give Newman too much power'.

The problem in QLD is there is no upper house, so it doesn't matter if you hold government with a majority of 1 or 20, you still can do whatever you want.

Sorry Symon, wrong again. It's not that simple. If the opposition are soooooo weak as they will be, come question time the LNP will not be held to any justification or rigor. Yes, they have the votes but with such a weak Opposition they won't have the intense questioning via the opposition to where, what and how......it is dangerous IMO having a Political party sooooo strong........

Watch this space, Newman is not going to be the savior. He is a slimy as the rest.....No, I'm not pro Lib or Lab.....Just a disgruntled Australian/Queenslander at the shyt, over Governed BS. Federally, I hope Labor lose for one reason, Smith to lose Defence Minister. The most Arogant tool in politics and if I was Commodore Kaffer, I would sue his arse.......

I don't think it's people wanting to now vote for LNP , it's people not wanting to vote for Labor .

Another person / Party with the right promotion could have taken a few seats off the LNP I reckon .

Sorry, but I cannot see the difference, we all know how to tell if a politician is lying....their mouth is moving.

Funny that people think that Qld elections are a sounding board for the rest of the country. Maybe the only time that Australian politics get international airplay due the crazies that get voted in.

About 50 years ago on a Saturday night, aged 18, I first enjoyed congress with a young lady.
Well, last night was the best Saturday night since then, watching Labor get absolutely bloody shredded. In fact, it was better than sex.
I hope Juliar was watching, becos that's what is going to happen federally. Bring it on!

Long time between drinks then old digger! Wouldn't want Julia in my own wank bank, but each to their own O:-)

Not a chance mate. As the results will show tonight, we've had a gutfull of Labor. I voted Bob Katter as a least he had some forethought for this state. I knew LNP would make it anyway but Katters party has the best values and integrity.
That's my opinion anyway (and probably a fight starter ;D).

Cheers

Wes

Not at all, i voted katter too. Cant support labour after their mismanagement and know too much about newman to vote for him.

And the Opposition are sooo good now, I don't think so. The stench of Labor was too strong to stomach again so people voted LNP. To be honest and IMO they are both shyt......Just people have not experience the LNP stench for some time and have short memories.

As has been said before, people didn't vote for the LNP, they voted to get Labor out.  If the LNP had a decent leader they would have been turfed out last election, the only difference this time is they got a leader who is popular in the SE corner.  And if you are popular in the SE corner you will run the rest of the state.

How is that any different when Beattie romped in with a landslide back in 2001?  The opposition only had 15 seats then.

Labor never took any notice of the questions being fired at them from the LNP either!  Ever seen footage of question time? It is a joke, and they treat it as such.  Howard was a classic at doing it at the federal level, he would field a question, and totally ignore it when he gave his 'answer' - how could he do that? Because he controlled both houses at the time.

Like I said before, the problem with the QLD system is there is no upper house, so no 'double check' of legislation that comes through.  This is why such major and controversial legislation (forced council amalgamations, asset sales etc) pass so easily up here - there is no system to keep the government in check.

Regardless if you are aligned to the left or the right, the opposition in QLD means nothing regardless if you have 10 seats or 44.

While the argument on politics is one I prefer to avoid, I'm no fan of either major party, and prefer to be a swing voter.

My concerns is the rate at which our country is being sold off to foreign countries.

Our farmlands, water rights, food security,  mines, properties all being flogged off at a fast rate to overseas foreign interests, with bugger all control.

This worries me alot and I don't see much being done, even NZ has better legislation in place than us when it comes to foreign interest groups buying up land.

Definitely agree campfire. We are very lacks in this dept and by the time they do anything, itll be too late. Why not increase/introduce tax of overseas ownership of rural land, or only lease to foreign investors....
Even with the mining tax (which should be more) australia still rates as one of, if not the, most profitable countries to do it in.

Campfire ... I think you just voted for the "Katter Australia Party" ... like I did.  Yes Anna did a great job through Jan11 ... didn't want Baldie running the joint (goodness me he'll be drilling Brisbane under for years to come) ... I thought Katter at least had a better agenda that was at least believable.  His winning statement for me was "stop selling off our assets to foreign companies who get the benefit from what has taken hard working Aussies generations to build and pay off", followed by "say no to carbon tax".

I think the only thing getting roasted around here yesterday was the Labor party.  Next major roasting, Qld under a LNP management.

Sorry Kit Kat,

Didn't vote cause I'm from NSW, and we don't see much of Bob Katter this Side of the border...

I'm just sorry that we weren't already back home and able to vote labor out....finally.  The only reason they got back in last time in my opinion is that LNP hasn't had anyone worth us giving them a go, so it has been better the devil we knew (or most of us at least...not me).   Glad to see labor go and will keep my thoughts in the positive for Newman for now and wait and see.

I heard on the news this morning Queensland is now 85 billion dollars in debt!  It is still AA rated, the lowest in the country. How can that be? What happened to the money from the sale of the railways etc?

Another point I heard was that how come Peter Beattie, the former Qld premier who mysteriously quit and then got a very nice job in the USA, was doing lots of TV reporting, with his big smug grin, during the election, when he is the one who started the mess QLD is now in. What a hide!  He was the one who privatised the electricity suppliers and said prices would come down. What a joke.

And now Anna said she is quitting.  Another lie?  She promised during the election that no matter what happens she will see her term out. Yep, shock horror, she told a lie.

But I do love the fact that in this country we do have the right to vote and we can say what we think about our leaders. It is great when political parties get voted out; it shows we can achieve great things. Let's hope all politicians learn from the Qld result, but it does take a lot to get through to them.  We can only hope.    Kevin

I feel a little sorry for Captain Bligh, I think she was handed a dud from Perfect Pete, It will be interesting how Can Do handles $85 Billion in debt with no assets.

We might be in for some nasty tax increases if we want to get out of jail, and then there is the Wivenhoe Dam claim hanging over our heads.

Did Can Do say he will control our cost of living expenses ?.

Newman has made a good start.

Told Bligh's husband he can keep his job if he unwinds the green crap he's put in place in the last 4 years.
