Sparky is a Sparky mate. Most industrial sparkys have HV experience of some sort. Glen you're looking at around the $140k (I've herd rumours of some getting $200k+ but so far only rumours) give or take depending on the mine or contractor.

As said above Seek is a good place to start looking for jobs.

I had been trying to get into the mining game for about 12 months driving dump trucks or loaders.
I have owned and operated large Ag machinery,frontend loaders, tele handlers and HC trucks most of my life.
I had  couple of companies show some interest but all were looking for mining experience.
So instead of chucking the towel in I applied for a few process technician jobs and bingo I had a couple of interviews within 2 weeks.
I have been working in a FIFO position now for about 2 months, 1 week on 1 week off. This roster suits me to a tee, with a young family.

What sort of roster or hours would that money be, interested to see how it compares to what I'm currently doing.

Mate.....I'm dead the same.
Time goes way to slow if your bored $hitless.
I keep fairly busy without being run off my feet.
Taking samples, trouble shooting and basically doing whatever the control room tell me.
Im really enjoying it at this stage.

Well when it took near 12mths to get a permanent sparky on our crew. Every time they got around to making an offer they had taken another job! So in the end came down to if you're a sparky and could start then the job was yours. Thats when a sparky is a sparky.

What sort of roster or hours would that money be, interested to see how it compares to what I'm currently doing.

5 /4 Roster. 5 on, 4 off, 5 on, 5off, 4on, 5 off then start again. 12hr shifts day and night. Basically you work two weekends then get two 5 day weekends. This is the best roster in mining. Not only is it an equal time roster it is equal weekends off. But it depends on the mine to what the roster is. 5/4, 4/4, 7/7, 6/2/6/6, 14/7 and the list never ends.

Its really a matter of Beat The Feet get out there & ask the questions as you have done . Depending on how your placed get in where you can then you move around inside the job . Look on there payrole not your savings . This has always worked for me & many others

HV switching experience is desirable, but not essential.  Contracting companies will give you preference if you have it because it costs around $6k to go through the course, which is a lot of outlay for them considering most guys will only stick around for 6-12 months before they move onto something else.  The actual mining companies incorporate it in their new starter training so it isn't that much of an issue for them.

Open cut electricians would be anywhere from about $110k-130k, underground would be a bit higher.

Just a note on rosters - while even time gives you a lot of time off, the fact is that if you are drive-in drive-out or fly-in fly-out operation you have to remember that half of the year you will not be at home.  Have a very serious chat with your spouse if you are looking at this type of arrangement.  It is incredible the amount of people who start, only to resign a month later because their spouse can't handle not having them home every night.  Also the mining industry has a disproportionally high divorce rate, which can partially be attributed to even time rosters.

Nah Mate...... Process Technician is about as technical as it gets.
Wellfield Technician is another job that might be worth a go.
HR Truck, Forklift and a White Card would be the tickets that might help get a gig.

i have just been asked to attend an interview day in townsville for a process technicians position, i hasd to turn down the initial request as they wanted me there this week...... i will take any help i can from any of you kind people to help me get into the mines.

I went into PVSWorkfind yesterday to hand in my resume, but because I don't have
-sleep deprivation,
-anxiety because I am unemployed
and because I am motivated to get myself out there looking for work;
I am a 1 on a scale of 1 to 4.
The government (who PVS is an agent for) don't help those who are a 1.
I need to go on drugs to get any help.
