Recently we made a quick stop over to make a cup of coffee on our camper trailer's slide out kitchen. While sitting on a rock drinking my coffee, I looked at the trailer and the slide out kitchen and wondered....what if I forgot to slide the kitchen back in and just drove off...and what would the consequences be....???? I wondered what over things could people forget....leaving the jockey wheel down, not locking onto the tow ball properly, not release the handbrake, leave items on top of trailer when they drive off etc.

Has anyone done something like this (doh!) and if so, were there any dire consequences?

cheers

Yep - handbrake for me - wondering why the Paj was labouring a bit  ;D

This only happened once, I now have a checklist.  :police:

Jockey wheel - when we collected the Eagle the salesman connected it all up and we drove off the lot for a quick trip around the block with half the service team yelling and screaming at us as we drove off. Salesman was a tad embarrased.

In the top of WA somewhere I over took another 4WD, I couldn't workout why they were flashing there lights at me. I left plenty of room, didn't cut them off, straight road, clear day, plenty of vision in front. I was wondering what there problem was.

The next time we stopped I walked around the back of the camper and noticed that the tailgate was open, not much but enough.... :-[

I left the jockey wheel down the other day and snapped the axel. Now need a new one.

On our way to the Cape, we stopped for fuel.  I got back into the car thinking dad had paid.  He got back in the car thinking I paid.  About 20ks up the road we realized we were both wrong and had driven off without paying.  We did the right thing and did a u-ey and went back to pay.  The guy at the counter didn't realize it had happened.  Balls up all round really...!

I'm always leaving things behind ... but mostly the alcohol.  So now I must "endure the checklist" from my other half, so we don't have to stop at various shops on the way to destination.   I keep trying to tell him I'm supporting the last town we go through before we get there, but he's convinced I'm suffering from "old timers".  Mum has 10 camping knives and 6 camping frypans ... so it must be hereditary?

Some friends left the handbrake on for the entire first trip with "Betty" their 7000 year old caravan.

Nothing beats the pre-trip checklist!!

I have to own up to not locking the ball on. Lucky it fell of just coming out the driveway.
Can also own up to forgeting the bungs in the boat once. Amazing how quick the water can come in those little holes.

Someone I knew did something similar.   Wife was asleep on the back seat on a long trip.   She woke up and went to the loo while he paid for the fuel.
Lucky he was listening to the local country radio station.   They had to put an announcement over the air!   (Before the days of mobile phones).

Well, i may have done something similar .......... Yesterday. We stopped in at Lockhart river to stock up on a few things and when we pulled up for lunch 15mins later I commented to the misses that she opened the tail gate quick. She smiled and said but you opened it . Nope, we drove off and left the the tail gate locked open but all cupboards locked shut  and luckily all sealed road. Ops, she should be more careful 8)

My Brother in Law forgot to close his tail gate, lost all his food and clothes out of the trailer, Funnily enough it was still sprawled across his road upon his return home

Have left the jockey wheel down...

However today, when pulling out onto the highway at the Iluka turnoff, saw a northbound Navara/Triton?? towing a caravan with the rear canopy open...doing a 100ks. Wonder how far they got before they realised?

p.s. some friends crossed the Wenlock with their tailgate down...spent some time recovering their stuff floating down the river [while looking for croc's]

We accidentally left the side canopy door up in tassie. When we went to pull out from the side of the road, it hit the shop awning and bent the hinge a bit. Glad we weren't going fast!

Exactly as stessl85. We were leaving home for a trip, went around the corner and the kitchen on the CT came sliding out - full length and wrapped itself around a light post. Cost just over $3k for a completely new kitchen. A good lesson learnt, always check from now on. Nobby

I left the top lid on front box unlocked. As the tent cover ties down onto it, after doing 110kph down the M7 it must have been pulled open. No harm, no foul, but a reminder to check those sorts of things.

our first trip, hubby said would be great to stop for a cuppa now....nuh, we had left the tea, coffee and flask at home.  Bought a new flask, but it was never as good as the original.  Love the old thermos.

I've forgotten to latch the tailgate closed a few times.  No damage apart from my pride.
