Well at least you it happened at home if that's a good thing.
A couple of years ago was traveling up east coast following coast all the way from Melbourne ended up spending to many days at some good places like Lakes Entrance anyway was doing I thought I do a bigger day to cover area that where I had already been and instead of using camper would stay in motel, got to north side of Nowra about 8pm then went and got food came back to motel at around 10pm. Never up coupled camper and parked it right in front of door of Motel. Set the alarm for 4 am so a bushy queenslander could drive through Sydney with less traffic.
Left almost everything in car and camper only got change of clothes out really.
Anyway got out to car at bit after 4am to find 2 broken windows in cruiser with everything inside gone. The list was a bit longer than the starter of this post, the worse thing was if it can be was we had been away for bit over 4 weeks so had tons of photos that you can never get back.
In hind sight I'm glad they never took the car and camper a well.
Rang cops but they could come until 5pm later that day and they said that even if they finger printed the car they might might not find anyone, I gave a list of serial numbers for some of the bigger items but to this day not one thing has came back to me.
A Toyota agent just south of Sydney think it was Illawarra were the best, got new glass in car and I was away again by 3pm
Insurance was no help at all I had a $500 access and glass was less than that so I paid for it, rest was not covered by car insurance. Was told it might be covered by house insurance but that wasn't to be either. At best if I had told insurance company you were taking certain items with you maybe I could have got a claim.
All I can say is when away take care

Sorry to hear about your loss, hope it didn't stuff your plans to much,

After i had my hilux  stolen from a public road the insurance company kindly informed me that nothing but the vechile would be covered, so that means that anything inside, eg recovery gear, gps, kids dvds ect all gone. So if you want these types of things covered when you're on the road you need to put them on your house contents policy as a specified portable especially laptops cameras and your fridge.
sorry about the hijack ;D

Thats what you have you have to do, put it on house and contents insurance, then you have to tell them everytime you have them in your car and dates when your going away. Not all insurance companies are like this I guess

That's lame as. They must have had a set up to get away with all of that. Sounds like a big rottweiler might be the go!
