When you say castings,
Every part of it, you measure the outside bits, the filter covers, anywhere you can see that it was in a mold, even the blown plastic box has the same join marks, they are Bloody identical to the dearer ones being sold in 'Name Brand' shops.
Before I purchase mine, I looked, watched and went to the stores and looked again.
For 90 odd bucks it could poop it's self tomorrow, but I've had a good run.
;D

Damn, I jinxed myself. I got flagged down by a guy who had had a flat tyre about 25 kms north of Glendambo in S.A. and when he put his spare on he discovered that it only had about 5 psi in it. I grabed my Typhoon and as I connected up to his battery there was a large spark  and that was the end of the Typhoon. It basically shorted out in the motor and the 50A fuse melted so badly that the whole fuse holder assy melted.

So now I own an ARB compressor, I was looking at their new double pumper that has the air tank. It is meant to be installed into the car but at $790.00 it was too dear for me atm.

I would put money on it that the 10Amp switch melted and the + wire touched the casing inside thereby melting the fuse.

Hey mate, you're preaching to the converted! I agree they are all the same and did the same research as you before I brought my ebay "copy"! ;D

QuoteSo I changed the switch for a heavy duty one and re-soldered the wires onto the terminals again.

I've already removed the alligator clips and fitted an anderson plug, fitted a decent fuse holder, as well as removing the cheap pressure gauge and fitting a decent one I already had.  Sounds like I should upgrade the switch, what one did you fit to yours?

Boesman

I had a switch from an old electric scooter. The one the kids use.

It had a switch to disconnects the battery from the control unit. But any heavy duty one will do. You might have to make the hole bigger in order to fit the bigger switch though.

Even on eBay, there are big price differences for the same unit.
It does pay to research, hey.

Was just down at Aldi checking out their compressor (on sale as of today), if you have the latest 4wd action mag (issue 169) I can tell you it looks identical to the Tigerz11 Thumper ($229) and Terrain Tamer TTAC3 ($495) for $99 which is an absolute bargain, and at that price I grabbed one, can't tell you if it's any good yet as I won't get a chance to play with it till later, but on a $/kg rating it craps on my Projecta Typhoon which is not as quick as it used to be which is why I took a punt on this.

Apparently there must be a difference internally between the the $495 pump and the $99 pump.... maybe gold plated pistons?  I mean, no retailer would be so rude to milk a brand name.... would they  ;D  ;D  ;D

OffRoadDave

Hehe surely not, just had a play with the new compressor and she sure goes like an expensive one, if anyone is in the market for a cheap compressor that goes like the clappers, at $99 it's awesome!

Snow

I grabbed an Aldi one as well and it is a ripper. Well put together and is a Heavy fester.  :cup:

Edit: anyone got the boss air compressor PX-07?? Looks like a bit of an industrial gigger...
Cant believe the price on the big CKMTP12 ARB unit
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130599273935 $875 us$! (probably double this price in AU)

I have a boss px-07 have had for years it was used 5 days a week for 2 years pumping up airbags in my trailer. Since then over the last 4 years it has still been pumping up airbags and tires just not as regular.
I have just put another piston in it and it made no difference to the performance.
This is what I will buy next

I've got a Bluetongue. I upgraded the original hose to 6mm along with Nitto style fittings so I could reach the camper trailer tyres and this resulted in a significant improvement in its performance. With the original hose it took around 4 minutes to pump up a 265/75 from 18 to 30psi, with the new hose it takes 2.5 minutes to go from 16 to 32psi.

If I was in the market for a new compressor I think I'd probably be looking at the newer ARB compressor though.

The new "maxi" ARB one comes in at round $900... Im not in that much rush... would be cheaper to be in NRMA, and call them out each time you go wheeling to pump up your tyres!

Just a few ideas.
