Dear All,

Just after some ideas.

I've been driving 4wds off road for quite a while, and am pretty comfortable doing some reasonably hard things.

We now got our off road camper and I was looking for an organisation / other that runs off road towing courses  in Vic (Melbourne) ?  I think it would be worthwhile, or at the very least to look into.

Any ideas ?

I can find a lot of towing (on road), but I think I have that one down pat...

Thanks

Speaking with Eddie of Eastern Ranges club, hes in the DTU - they are working on one now.  But you have to do the onroad one first which will make it useless to 99% of people at their prices :(
You could just spend a weekend up the high country :) Start at Sheepyard and drive round with a couple of other people.  But depends on what sort of offroading you mean - harder stuff, or driving from here to Lake Eyre on fire trails.

I have answers on ya other Driver training stuff too.

Thanks guys,

Bruce, I guess I am mainly looking for some knowledge around fire trails, mud & Sand, river crossings/ ruts going up and down hills.  Not really wanting to do rock hoping or steps, so not too hard.  Ideally nothing you need a winch for. I've got new AT tyres and a set of MT in the garage and a reasonably capable vehicle and trailer.

I think the high country would be a good place (when some of the tracks and roads open).

Just looking at getting some experience before things like Fraser Island, Central Aus, Kimberley and the Cape which we are wanting to get to within the next 5-10 years or so.

I had a look at To-Ed website and they don't appear to have any off road in VIC, but I can contact them.

Would rather not doing a on road course first - bit of a waste of $$$ IMO.

Phil I just sent Bruce a message this morning & thinking YOU & I could run a trip up there.  IM happy to pick the tracks & lead,  I think there were a few others in the club interested too.  We could make our own "course"

If you want Sand, we could do a trip to Robe too, I know theres plenty that wanna go there.. Would be nice to camp in the Dunes for a change too. Steer clear of the chick that has that time of the mth all year....

I believe Tow Ed is run by 'Getabout 4WD' based at Prospect in Sydney. They do On Road towing, not sure about Off Road Towing. Probably do.

02 8822 5656  or julie@getabout.com.au

We have been on their 4WD and sand driving courses. They are very good.

Cheers.
