Just with bloke from work whose car got stolen, he had a tracking device and tracked his car in minutes..

just been looking on Victorian Stolen Vehicle page on stalkerbook I cant believe how many pages of cars are going, and not just sports cars... seems most cars with push button ignition are easy targets... Shit loads of Mazdas and Corollas going (and dual cab utes)

Educate me on good/bad tracking devices... Ghost Tracking seems widely trusted and used

Getting there if half the fun

The other half is a cold beer when you do.

Saw a 2 panel cartoon about this yonks ago.
Smartly dressed chap gets out of his shiny Porsche in a seedy neighbourhood.
Presses the key fob as he walks away, and Poof, it changes to a beat up daggy Beetle with flat tyres.
Cheers

Apple AirTags notify that a tag is following you after 20 minutes, so is useless for tracking a stolen vehicle
Magtag same technology as apple tag gives you 24 hours before notification to thieves phones (unless the thief has travelled with the vehicle before, then it's still only 20 minutes.
Both of these track through the apple network and wifi, so no good in remote locations.
GPS enabled tracking devices require a sim card to communicate location and need regular battery changes or charge.
Witi is slightly different as it also Intergrated with the braking system to engage the brake to prevent the theft, as well as tracking, it also has a sim card for communication.

You can get trackers that do not rely on internet or phone signals, but operate on the old 3G radio signals.
Look up Meshcore:

It may be a possibility for those with concerns. It should be noted in Vic, at least, it is relatively limited to Metro areas and major regional centres.
