Titfish

Craig,

Have you had a look on a kombi van site or similar?

They tend to use upright fridges a lot.

Might be worth a look.

Cheers
Ken

I have 2 SR70F fridges (the 57L versions, one is an older model). I got both them from gumtree and eBay (one for $200 and the other for $126!!!).

Both are great fridges but use more power than my chest Engel fridge. But they are much better for organisation, no need to dig deep to get the stuff out. It also limits you to the size of bowls/dishes you can fit in. Some people warned that they don't keep their cool as it loses it when the door opens, I haven't found it to be an issue at all.

Hi Nab, do they freeze meats in the freezer compartment, gee that is a good price, Craig

Both purchases were right place right time, gotta have a win sometimes.

I have the car fridge set at a bit over 2 and whatever is in the freezer part stays very cold but won't freeze it. If you put it in there already frozen then it will stay frozen for a couple days.

The one in the camper is set to just under 3 and the freezer part keeps things on the verge of freezing but not quite. If you put it in frozen it will stay frozen for a long time, longest for we got was about a week until we used the food.

At a guess it probably uses about 30-40% more power than my 32L Engel chest fridge. The newer upright has the same motor as my 32L but is almost double the volume.

The best thing is that stuff is so accessible. In the chest fridge the kids just grab stuff and knock over other stuff or jam things on top of tomatoes for example. The upright makes it much easier for them and you can say "get the butter from the middle shelf" and they won't destroy the other contents!!!!

Haven't used my 32L in 6 months, might have to sell it...

Thanks Nab, just what i was after, Yes with the barn doors on the 80 and the misses being a short person the upright sounds a great way to go, Craig

One thing to be aware of with the upright CT,  is things staying in place on the shelves over the roughish  stuff .. Not sure if newer types have come up with some sort of retainers to keep things inplace on the shelves  ..
Just known people with upright fridges,  that have  ended  up with a scrambled mess in the bottom of them at the end of a roughish drive  ..

Thanks edz, yep we know all about them we use run a 60lt chestcold upright fridge, freezer and a 60lt chestcold chest freezer for many years but both were very hungry on power and are stuffed now, Craig
