Hi all
Getting sick of not having a camper and also not enough cash to get me a nice crossover.
So as a stopgap am considering oldish rear folds until my $$$'s improve.
This 1995 model came up in a Gumtree and may consider having a looksee at it. It is cheap enough I think and as a basic camper would tick a few boxes.
Has newish canvas and most of the essentials look OK.
Anyone had any experience with older Camp-o-matics? I know of the later models being shipped in on a slow boat but this one being 1995 would have (or should have) been built in Yatala by good Aussie pie eaters.
Won't be a "be all and end all" camper, just one to get out and about in.
Any feedback, be it good or bad is welcomed.

We have to start thinking about what sort of a world we are going to leave for Keith Richards after we are all gone.

I haven't really heard much about them till I hit up Mr. Google. He seems to think the older ones are pretty good. Being 1995 I thought it may be a bit long in the tooth until I saw a few newer ones that weren't in as good a condition. I suppose they have never been on my radar until I came across this one.

Get what you can afford that allows you to get out and about, anything on top of that I don't really think it adds to the experience of getting away, just makes it a bit easier/more comfortable.

jk

We had an older Camp o matic, tough as nails. We rolled it 50m over a cliff and it was rebuilt because the chassis was still straight and square from corner to corner !!!  Very good bang for your buck IMHO !

Yeah I knew you would, just thought I would be nice for once. The price is a bit up there I think but he said it is negotiable. Just looks like an old honest trailer.
Booked in for a looksee tomorrow at 4PM. Is about 4 blocks away from where I bought my old Trackabout.

I have a 98 model. Tough as nails. It will go anywhere your 4x4 will go AND come back in one piece. Less than 30 seconds to set up, and 5 mins to pack up. Grab it while it is there . A bargain with new canvas. Once you get it you wont want a $20000-30000  camper that does exactly the same but is heavier to tow and takes longer to set up.

GBC

We had an m3. Most old campomatics will be cosmetically poor because they got used so much. You'd want to be quick getting money down on that one, it looks a few grand under where it should be.

From a quick compare it looked like it was priced about right to me, and then I think it is very much a buyer's market ontop of that. I'd be negotiating pretty hard.

We've got 2004 model. Great tough camper. Has been to the Cape twice up the length of the tele track. They tow great and are easy to live with. Only work I have ever done to it is new bearings and brakes.

You won't be disappointed.

A former work mate had one, It sheared a swing arm from the torsion bar suspension once, on a trip up North,  Skull dragged it upside down a few hundred meters, had the whole lot sent back to the Yatala factory  under insurance and had it returned as good as new .. Tuff units .
