What is IBD?
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
The month of May is Crohn's & Colitis Awareness Month, today is also World IBD Day – 19th May.
If you are unaware of what Crohn's & Colitis is please follow the below link.
https://www.crohnsandcolitis.com.au/about-crohns-colitis/
Crohn's & Colitis Australia is the peak national body representing more 75,000 Australians diagnosed(Many More have not been diagnosed) with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. They provide support services, fund research and create public awareness of these chronic diseases.
In 2009 I was diagnosed with Crohns Disease(IBD), this has had a huge impact on my life, I must point out that I don't suffer the symptoms as many others do or had surgery to remove large parts of my intestine or bowel, I am lucky.
Over the last couple of years I have meet Swaggers that suffer from varied forms of this chronic disease and other Swaggers who have to deal with similar life changing health issues, Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS), Stroke, brain hemorrhage aneurysm( which I suffered 01 /12/1998).
MySwag is truly is a great community of like minded people, and you don't get to see this until you sit around a fire and share your story.
I'm asking that we all take a moment to think about family, friends and others that have to deal with not just this, but all invisible diseases and struggles, yes depression is an invisible disease too.
Some days our Cross is a little heavier than others, with the support of family, friends and those that care(You don't have to understand what someone is going trough, you just have to listen and be there if needed) it does make a huge difference.
Thank You to all that have given support and understanding over the years to those that don't ask for help.

May 19th is Crohn's & Colitis Awareness Month, today is also World IBD Day.
Well, that 12 months went quick, for me personally, some things have changed.
Thanks to MrCruza(John), who sent me a link to what a New Zealand microbiologist had discovered.

Christchurch microbiologist may have cracked Crohn's disease

By cutting just about all milk out of my diet, my flare ups have stopped, I keep taking my medication.

Anyway,
I just wanted to bring awareness again to this horrible disease that effects many of us.
Take care & safe travels.

Regards
Jon

Chris.

I have Chron's too Jon, I was diagnosed in 2006 & spent nearly 4 weeks in hospital having surgery (significant section of bowel removed). Fortunately things have settled, I'm off the Imuran & Prednisolone & just trying to watch the diet.

Hi Chris,
I've been fortunate that the impact on my life has been minimal compared to many suffers like yourself that have had surgery.
Diet is a big part of managing Crohns, I have found Honey to be beneficial.
Bread is a big No No, as is wheat products.

Chris I hope it goes well, and that you can find some relief.

This is what is cruel, so many things that you like that aren't good for you. Although when compared to a cancel sufferer it pales in significance....

We all have a cross to carry, some have a cross that I could not imagine ever having to deal with.
We do want we can, but we also have compassion and empathy for others that have been dealt a harsh hand.
Through Myswag I have meet so many genuine giving people, they give advice, guidance and support, never wanting anything in return, other then to of helped someone who needs help.

BTW Swaggers, we need more get together's,  :cup:

Good work, guys.

After a lot of years of 100% casein (dairy) free, and a few years of both gluten and casein free, I was so pleased to find that healing was sufficient to make gluten free the only requirement.  So many things out there with traces of dairy.  GF alone is so much easier.

Unfortunately it looks like I also need to limit all forms of resistant starch. Since so many gf products use tapioca, rice and potato starch, it sometimes feels like the world is determined to make it hard to eat anything processed.

All the best to those dealing with these issues.  It's an ongoing n=1 science experiment.

Cheers Jon,
I see what you have been through, hear what you have done to alleviate your problems.
You know my health issues, carrying on, got more problems on going, just have to deal with them as they occur.
Looking forward to retiring end of July and take it as it comes.
Might catch up with you lot later this year.
