Thought it would be interesting to see how many people prefer new, and how many don't mind pre owned.  8)

I bought an ex rental Pioneer Argyle that was used for two years, its a fairly basic camper, has an awning, 2 12volt outlets, 1 usb outlet and 2 240volt outlets but seems fairly solid and is in good condition.

Buying a Kimberley Kamper new is beyond current means but I feel confident buying one second hand as quality lasts. Maybe a new one when retiring to the itinerant lifestyle touring the country.

Both campers were used.
First was used 1 time.
Second was used a dozen times and then stored away.
Nav was brand spanking new but if I had seen a used one that I had thought was worth the money I would have bought it.

When i got the camper about 5 years back it was new, and the fourby that towed it was used. Now the camper is used (by us the past 5 years), and the vehicle that tows it is new  ;D

Second hand fourby, let someone else cop the depreciation  ;D We got lucky with our cruiser. One owner (literally a Mosman Park soccer mum) and low kays. Didn't even have a tow bar. Home built camping trailer as a lack of funds and not finding what we needed, dictated this path.

New ute and new camper this time around. 1st camper was homebuilt and never had an even close to new car before now. Yep I understand about depreciation but the ute only cost around  $30k and I intend to hang on to it for quite a while as I don't really want to go through the modification phase again.

We bought our camper and 4WD new.

I am happy to buy used, turns out the husband likes shiny and new! Was thinking of changing our camper style and was happy to get something 2nd hand and a bit on the older side but husband was not the least bit interested in older or used.

When we bought our prado, we had a look at the second hand market and they were selling for 5k less than brand new and had 40k on the clock - didnt see the value of second hand at that price so bought new.

With the camper we were after a staircase soft floor model, it was at a time when the only second hand staircase campers were at least 16k (admittedly they were usually fully kitted out) our chosen budget did not stretch that far and some companies had started to bring out budget options, so we went for one of them and upscaled it ourselves.

I buy used, let someone else deal with the depreciation. I didnt want a cheap chinese camper trailer so buying used meant i could spend the spare cash doing upgrades, my 4by is 18years old and running like a swiss watch, no new vehicle has what i want.

4wd is 27 years old and runs beautifully even if its a bit slow to get going. Runs well on the freeway and 4wd's even better. Waiting for a new camper but a few hiccups so may go secondhand instead......

Bought the trailer brand new in 2011. Only ever owned 2nd hand vehicles.

First and only camper was 2nd hand, as I didn't like the look of the new stuff in my price <$15k).  The camper has been zero dramas at all, it's extremely well made and should stay that way for a long time.

First 4wd was also 2nd hand (2002 Pajero), again because we had a limited budget.  The car had had a tough life before we got it and it needed a fair bit of money spent repairing things and keeping it going.  In hindsight, I probably should have got a loan and bought something newer, with low kms, as I've easily spent the purchase price again on the "bargain".

We've recently bought a new 4wd, but I'm keeping the Pajero as a runabout as it's so nice to drive and it's well setup.  A new 4wd is probably more useful due to the warranty and reliability etc etc.  With a camper, there's not much that goes wrong, so buying brand new isn't so critical IMHO.
