St. Anne's Bluegrass

I bought a small port barrel on my way to Darwin in 2010/11from Echuca. This is what I filled it with.

It is a very nice smooth drop, way to easy to drink.

I had a supposed "port connoisseur"  try it and he reckoned it was the goods, right up there with the best.

If you come across it in Echuca or from the St Anne's vineyard in Moama NSW, give it a nudge, you won't be disappointed.  ;)

I buy it in the 5 litre plastic bottle and then decanter it into the barrel. Purchase via mail order and have it sent to Darwin.

Cheers, Chris

I think Nookeys Delight is the best but it's pricey, so we buy Thomson Brook Estate (Donnybrook WA) Fortified Red or White Decadence. Must say the Galafrey Tawny Port from Mount Barker WA is one of the original favourites though. When we lived in Busselton WA we had the pleasure of many weekend drives to visit the various wineries around the region.

Woodstock in the Mclaren Vale (SA) do an "off the menu" port blend called "Jimmy's Port Barrel Blend" i buy it in 20l containers and use it to fill my 25l oak keg and as i take a glass or 2 from the keg i top it up from the container. Its also great over a good quality vanilla ice cream

Ned Kelly white port seems to the flavour around camp with us at the moment . Found it last year just out of Mildura at a Sunday market and it has kept the cold at bay ever since.

Looks like a trip to Dan Murphy when we are in Cairns on Sunday.
I tried to get a few of the ones you guys mentioned in the last few days and nothing but blank looks when I asked for them ???

For a clearer head next morning go for a Port. That's a drink made in Portugal, as opposed to an "Australian Port-finish style fortified wine". My theory is this - better spirit, better grape varieties, fewer distillation brain-destroyers. Bottle's gotta have a paper seal across the cork. Lots of Australian wineries are still making port out of stuff they can't do anything else with. Like Penfold's "Makes You Feel As If You've Been Hit Over The Head With A" Club Port.

And yes, I am a lah-di-dah poncy wine snob. When in camp I will ONLY drink my Cockburn's Tawny out of a PERFECTLY CLEAN Vegemite jar. Sorry, that's how it is.
