Have to agree - as we sleep out (using it for the second time) at Chrisites beach on the Murray river for another 2 nights.  It's our first camper, so we know little else but it seems to do the trick for us.

Can't say we'd ever go to the hassle of setting up all the roofs and walls though.  A lot of work and a massive unit if you do.

Ranger series.

Our site setup today (a little off topic, but here is a Mars soft top Ranger with just the additional roof setup).

We bought a Mars last year before I came on this site and discovered it probably wasn't  kosher being Chinese and all , but the price was right and I got about $1000 bucks worth of electrical goodies from the seller thrown in. We used the following setup this year when in Adelaide and it worked great as my teenage daughter and her friend had a separate area for themselves and all their crap. We had a number of people asking about the camper and commenting on this setup. See it as a stepping stone for something bigger and better down the track but for the amount of trips we do we couldn't be happier with it.

You want something bigger down the track, crikey? Tell your kids and friends to get their own bloody camper LOL  ;D ;D

Read "bigger and better " as a caravan. Wife prefers glamping so toilet and shower needed for when we go around Australia. Have a five year plan ( due to kids )but I wonder what it will be like in 5 years - probably black top everywhere , no free camping , fuel costs too high , access too hard , too many people etc etc. The camper will probably go to my 19 year old though.

Man, that thing is huge!

It would take me atleast a dozen beers to set it up....... by that time it wouldn't look quite as neat as yours!  ;D ;D

Yeah it took a while as it was the first time we had used it this way. Floors and walls velcro so once you get going it is pretty easy work . Still had a few beers though and as it was the first day of our hols I didn't care  ;D

G'DAY,

We picked up a vangard for the princely sum of 6.5 k  just the weekend before last.  I was impressed with the quality of build and while its not a top of the range aussie built camper, it will get us out there in more comfort and easier than the previous roof top tent setup.   Waiting for the coming weekto get away to test it out properly.

The only issues I had are the fact that I cant fit even a self inflating matress on top of the thin foam one supplied and still fold the camper up, the water pump was sucking air before I found that oneof the hoses had not been pushed all the way into the fitting, and the plug was wired incorrectly causing theelectric brakes to be non operational.

As a base to build on and customise to suit our style im very happy with the value.    So much so thati went back andbought one of their generators, which also seems to be value for money.

Mi.

Glad your happy but your brakes being wired up incorrectly would worry me. Not a small thing to get wrong and potentially could cause accidents etc to the not so technically minded who could fix it themselves

Don't go jumping to conclusions mate. Why don't you ask what the problem with the brakes were instead of suggesting a potential accident was in the offering. These campers also have override couplings, so not a big issue.

Marschy, are you sure they have override brakes? The electric brakes not working is a very big issue if not picked up on by someone technically inclined (oh, and the OP just clearly said that the brakes weren't working). Just looked at Mars website and they only state electric brakes and by the look of their photo, it only has a handbrake. So maybe none of us should jump to conclusions.

No, they werent working, and couldnt have due to two wires on the plug being reversed.    As stated by another posrer, could be a big issue which is why I contacted the company about it.

If I didnt have some mechanical/electrical and other knowledge and ability  I would have saved to buy a 'NAME' brand but I am aware that something has to suffer to save a dollar.   Brakes are another thing altogether, but in the end there was no harm done and maybe it was a one off mistake?

Thanks for the response mickn,

Does your camper have override brakes as well as electric?

Cheers, Marschy

(see that's how it's done fellas, you ask nicely)
