so I'm making my own led strip lights rather than buy pre-made ones.  to save money of course.
I want the components before my trip late next week to put it all together.

purposely buy items from aussie sellers, thinking anything offshore will take longer to get here, but I stuffed up and ordered one item (out of 5) from a seller from China.

ordered everything sunday night, received emails Monday from all sellers saying all had been posted.

and what do you know???? today, the first package to arrive was from my new chinese mates!
how the hell does that work?

Economy shipping from china is more or less a lottery. These small packages turn up to the airport in large bins and are effectively used as packing to fill voids in those aluminium containers after they are loaded with the priority parcels.

Ordered a Dell laptop from Malayasia once on the Friday week before Good Friday. Custom laptop. Tracked it online as the payment was approved ( fri) and production started ( fri/ sat) freighted (sat/sun) arrived Syd airport with arrival scan 7pm Sunday night . The following Thursday I was arguing with the frieght company cause it was still in Syd and they were saying tue delivery!  After a battle they special Couirered it to me Thurs afternoon. The world works at a different pace to Australia.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Had similar issues with our annexe we ordered recently.  The roof arrived in WA in about 3 days, but the walls took another 3 days to get here ???  They were sent the same day, same company and I had the tracking confirmation to tell me the courier picked them up within minutes of me paying so it was definitely a courier issue. ???  It then took another 2 days before they delivered it to me (both parcels because they held onto the first one while they waited for the other to arrive). ???

And on the overseas order topic I order pretty much monthly from the UK (bike parts) and I can order on say Thursday night or Friday morning and it will be at my door Monday morning or Tuesday.  And yet I order parts from QLD or NSW and 2 weeks later I'm still waiting.  You are not alone and it is very frustrating.  Shop or buy from Aussie they say......I say get your you know what sorted and I might!

I'm keen to hear who you ordered from. I make my own and some for mates and it always seems to take months for stuff to arrive from our Chinese mates.

Ive been dealing with some USA companies lately upgrading some hiking gear and in a lot of cases I have to use a ship it forward company because the suppliers are not allowed to sell certain products outside of the US....but anyway the suppliers 9 times out of 10 ship to my forwarder free of charge and ship within 24 hours of the order placed, and my forwarding company re-ships it to me within hours of it arriving, the parcels arrive in Sydney nearly always within 2 days........to get from Sydney to Tassie can take a week LOL

Heres one in process right now..........

I have waited months for things from China! The yanks are amazing with their service, or at least that has been my experience. Most of the companies I deal with have live chat help and they are really switched on and wiling to go above and beyond to help. Australian companies could learn a lot from them.

I deal with them almost daily. They are either fantastic to deal with, or absolutely f###ing hopeless! There is no in between.

I think you need to look at where in China the seller is. I suspect that some of the provinces are quite out of the way places. I find a lot of things from Hong Kong arrive with in a week or so, but it is a bit hit and miss. After 4 weeks I start to get nervous, but on the whole I have had good experiences 98% of the time, occasionally what is delivered is a piece of junk though.

As said China is pot luck.  I have ordered LED parts from china.  First time within a week, second time, same seller and item took over a month.
US and UK sellers can get it here faster tan. Someone interstate

I think eBay Chinese sellers are pot luck more so than Aliexpress because most of the eBay sellers only offer free shipping. Whereas you can generally select (and pay for) a number of different shipping methods on Aliexpress and my experience has been you get the service you pay for.

I have a funny story in regards to a Chinese seller on Ebay.

I purchased a certain type of welding helmet and after several weeks of it not turning up I went through the usual process of emailing the supplier back and forward about it supposedly being lost in the mail and he was sending another replacement one bla bla bla in the meantime his feedback is getting similar rave reviews about him not sending things etc.
He was really dodgy, his tracking numbers didn't work and the two parcels that were supposedly sent about 4 weeks apart had the same dodgy tracking number, I gave up on him and put it down to my first failed ebay experience . It had to happen eventually and I didn't need the helmet, I was only buying it because it was cheap and I liked its specs. So I left him negative feedback burning him well and truly and forgot about it.

Well approximately 3 months later the welding helmet turned up in the mail LOL  ;D

Don't they do dot paintings by commission.
They have to get inspired first.  Then there's all that concentration.
It's very tiring, and you can only do a bit at a time.
Like, I mean you have to give 'em a bit of a go.
