Laws with new cars

G'Day all

I was told by a new car salesman that all new vehicles with anderson plugs on the rear have to be covered and also with a power light to adv of power to the anderson plug. He told me he knew of people getting fined on the border of NSW and VIC, I have searched RMS and VIC roads and cant find any info on this. I have a feeling this bloke might be getting confused with the laws about breakaway monitors.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Its an easy get around, just wait a week or two before fitting anything, then its not a new car anymore 

and don't listen to cars salesmen.

Just been looking at new cars, had a few conversations about electrics... Nothing like that came up... But seeing as they don't come standard on any vehicle (new) I world be checking with an Auto Electrician if you are worried about it.. Personally I call BS,
Bit like the salesman last week that told me (when discussing off road ability of various models) that he had driven a stock Colorado 7 through Cruiser Canyon @ Landcruiser Park.
NB: you can get a cover for Anderson plugs I have them on my Patrol.

I think the salesmen getting it confused with something else.  Sounds an odd rule.

I can somewhat understand some logic behind it, but wasn't aware it was required by any law.

I have my AP mounted in a covered housing with front spring cover. See left side of pic.
Given it's location under rear bumper or bar, a small led could warn of the power outlet, but also make it easy to find in the dark.

But then, why would the same not also apply to a 7pin trailer plug............

I think he is getting confused with 230V GPO's powered by onboard inverters.  I do recall reading about some rules that were supposedly coming in about them, but it was a while ago (I can't even remember where I read it) and I haven't seen anything come out about it.

Exact same cover on mine, decided to do it that way to keep as much dirt etc as possible out of it.

Mine's always live unless the starter battery drops to a certain voltage...but I thought they all were anyways, unless you put an inline switch of sorts on. I didn't bother with a switch because I knew there'd be times I'd forget to switch it on

thanks all for the input, I have asked this question to a few people, and get the same, no idea of it. It was a toyota dealer. i couldnt find anything on it so i wasnt to concerned, just was interested in finding it.
