Victorian Firewood collection

Howdy all,

specific to Victorians, does anyone use the DSE site to identify firewood collection areas?

Im going away soon so thought id check if there was a collection area near camp.  I figured it might be more productive than finding wood at camp.  It is however a pain in the a$$ to find areas.  The pdf maps on the link below are very difficult to identify, unless you're a local its hard to determine where they even are!  Is there an easier way?

I doubt it. Usually half green timber in an old logging coupe.

Most of the collection areas get hit hard on the opening weekend then its just like camping areas, you have to go searching for it.

I know the areas around here you have to drive around a fair bit and make multiple stops to get a trailer load.

We only use the pdf maps and the google the track names to get a better idea of where to go in.

If you are camping you can pick up off the forest floor, the designated areas do not apply.
You are restricted to burning anything 1 metre and under.
The designated areas are for locals cutting their yearly requirements.

I just take my chain saw camping and cut up fallen timber for camp fire use on the road side........removing it from the bush for home use is an offence, as far as I know cutting a small ammount for camp use is not.

Thanks all for the replies, yeah, what i was getting at was, is there an easier way to find out where the allocated areas are, any extra i have i would then bring home, but sounds like it may not be worth the hassle. 

On further thought, is it done on purpose??  A conspiracy theory i know, but i had trouble for a couple of the maps, just couldnt find such and such a track on google and plenty of "unnamed" tracks, i couldnt even work out the general vicinity other than the "Midlands" region which is on the map.

Anywho, im sure ill get some wood somewhere

our local cauncil now allows roadside collection, as long as we have a permit, well a leter from them.

only allowed to collect from council roads and not vicroads managed roads.

Burn the permit ,maps , paperwork , & any other flammable material provided by any Gov Dept . That should keep you warm for weeks

  I thought you can pick up wood any where as long you only use it for camping.
We do not have wood permits in Victoria any more, Wood getting is seasonal
