Some of the older models of Kindle E readers require an update by 22 Mar US time, to be able to access the Kindle store apparently.

When you connect to wifi, it downloads the updates. Seamless

I saw a mention of it today on another forum, and when I checked the mrs Kindle, sure enough... flat as a dodo.. Stuck it on charge and after about 15 mins was able to boot it up, then it updated. Otherwise I think you have to apply the update manually, as it won't access the site.
