Folks,
My wife and I are seriously considering buying a standard 07 or 08 jayco swan. These are after they have moved to the new construction of the body, but before the one piece roofs were introduced.

I think we will be able to pick one of these up for around 17-18k. Are there any particular things to look at regarding the roof or body. Or any compelling reasons to get a later model 09 with the new roof?

If anyone has come across a good swan in these years for sub-20k then feel free to let me know.

gday mate.
we dont have an 07/08 swan but have the 04 model. been told to make sure the roof ( external) has a nice arch to it and just check inside the ceiling for water marks to indicate a roof leak.other than that mate all good apart from cosmetic bits & pieces, cheers.

Roof is foremost on my mind. They are certainly expensive to replace or rebuild.

Do the 2007/08 roofs still use a timber frame? I assumed it had moved to an alloy structure.

I have a 2007 OB Flamingo. Yes, nice slight arch in the roof, look for water stains down the middle of the inside of the roof (also look for repainted surface) also check behind  the curtains in the middle. I have a few bubbles in the outside lining of the roof, but no leaks (as tested in storms and heavy rain while camping).
We looked at a Swan is Sydney that had water damage, had been fixed but the inside lining was very soft....
Not sure about the wall frames, I may have some more info tomorrow as I have some mods planned.

I can take photos of any parts you need, just let me know...

Keep an eye out for a later model with a good deal.
We picked up our 2010 onroad Eagle with full annexe (first registered April 2011 so it was only 1 yr old when we bought it) in excellent condition for just  over $18000.

Yep some good dealsaround if you look often and are willing to wait. We bought a 2007 outback eagle with full extended annex for $12500. And thats just 1 we have bought a few vans cheap.

12k for 07 outback eagle seems really good. Sorting out selling price vs asking price is tricky.

Look often and i mean often gumtree etc are great if you are quick. They appear and you need to go or within 30 min of appearing someone has already bought it. I have been to houses where i was just a minute late :( just the way it goes. Waiting is the key if your not in a hurry.

I have had a chat to bloke about an 07 standard Swan with underslung axle, bagged awning and water pump for $17k which seemed ok to me.

However, eyeing off newer Swans and possibly a new 2012 standard Swan with bagged awning and flys for $24k. That price for new one seems pretty good too.
