This has probably been covered many times before but havn't been able to locate any relevant threads... please point me in the right direction(link??) to some if there are some out there.

OK so I've been planning a CT build for about 2yrs now but am now at a standstill on measurements until I can work out which tent I want to throw on top of it. Scenario is like this.... family of 4(2kids aged 2yrs & 3mths) and have a lovely lady that enjoys the outdooors, BUT... we(I) get frustrated when setting up camp as she isn't a very hands on practical type person unless you tell & show her exactly what needs doing(may as well just do it myself) and is a bit of a struggle then anyways.... Soooooo, looking for a camper top that is EASY.. and QUICK to setup & pull down. Also looking for something with a 1200mm drop  ;)

Was quite impressed with Aussie Jays 9ft tent as it's quick and easy to setup and can have the extra room added on for the kids room etc when staying longer than one night but not sure a 9ft'er would be quite enough space though. Is there any others out there within the 9-12ft range that are quick setup and quite spacious or have the option for an extra room added on??

I have been looking into this for a while now too. The only tents I know of in 12ft or larger with that sort of drop are GIC (1180mm), and XTrail (1200mm) but I'm not sure that they are easy to set up (lots of poles). Only other way is custom made but $$$.
Best thing is to get started on your trailer build as it will probably take a lot longer that you think (hopefully its not just me) and you can keep searching in the meantime. Most tents will fit a 6x4 and the more common size 7x4 trailer so the only other thing you will have to know is when you get to attaching the tailgate you will need to know which side the tent folds to and swing the tailgate accordingly.
Good luck and let us know how you go.

Cheers

They also offer an extended drop on a few of their tents I think too. They asked me if I wanted that option on my adventurer.
Cant give a real good idea of how easy setup/packdown is cos I've only done it once but it didnt seem to bad to me.

Really good to deal with though and very happy with the quality.

Why not look at getting a custom tent made to suit your own trailer

Theres a thread on here from Johnny Trackabout, something like 'What an amazing trailer', where a customer built the trailer, took it to Trackabout to get the tent made up to suit the trailer.

Its another option to limiting yourself to off the shelf tents.

Also think about how much time you spend in the tent.. is it just to sleep, get changed, then your out for the day?? 9ft should suffice for that..?

Remember, 12ft tents can be tight/wont (from what I've seen in some) fit on some caravan park sites if thats ever an issue.

Also have a look at Customline as they make custom fit tents.

Ours is a 12ft and I can do it on my own and have never had any issues fitting into a caravan park (which is where we do most of our camping).  They also have add on rooms & annexes that you can add.

There was a thread on here where someone had had one made but can't recall the name of the thread...... ???

Central Coast Campers will also do a custom made top, they were on our short list to replace our existing top on our trailer. Great Aussie Campers were also an option, All-Terrain will now also do tops as well but they were getting quite expensive.
I guess it will come down to what you want to spend.

We are now considering getting a whole new trailer most likely a walk-up version. We are a family of 5.

Hi Brighty

I had Customline make a camper top for my home built trailer. Its a 9ft. The new design from 2011 have square'er ( If thats a word) walls giving it more room inside. Check out my thread here:
