Kipor...kewl or c..p

I recently bought a Kipor 2kva inverter gennie, through the guy that serviced my camper. That was April 3. He primed the gennie with oil and fuel and proceeded to pull start it...for forty minutes. This was brand new in the box. The gennie has had a number of replacement parts fitted with no change. Finally, after a rather assertive phone call from me  (I reckon a month holding my breath was enough...), they have 'graciously' offered to replace the unit with a new one. Now I have to wait for it to be transported from Sydney. Would like to go out to Jolly's Bend this weekend, but going blue in the face isn't a good look for me! At least I'm one step closer!

Okay maybe I'm getting terminologies mixed up. I have a jayco dove and have had two deep cycle batteries and a charger fitted so I can go bush for a couple of days. The kipor was for topping up the batteries during the day because I use a CPAP machine at night and run a fridge, tv and lights also. Just a rookie at this time and haven't ventured out of the cv park stays due to the gennie situation. Sorry that was long winded.

Presume that the kipor is vastly cheaper than a Honda (or Yamaha) , but also sounds like you need power for quite an urgent reason.(don't know what is a CPAP machine) but it sounds meddical, in which case, reliability siould be paramount.
hopefully all good with the replacement.

You must have copped a bad one. I've had a 2kva Kipor series 2 gennie for over 4 years and its never missed a beat when I've had to use it.

I always turn it on at least once every 2 months and put it under load just to keep it conditioned.

Fortunately I've never experienced the problems you have had. I suppose over the years I've run mine for about 40 hours all up. Your post reminded me I have to give it an oil change this week.

If your just charging batteries an inverter generator isnt a very efficient way to do it, at best youll get 10 Amps I'd expect
Look at 12 volt generators from Christie or ABR Sidewinder. Should get more than double that from smaller cheaper unit
Otherwise look at independant charge isolator from vehicle, even more Amps and nothing to carry around. Rotronics sell one type.

In saying all that i have a Kipor 2 kva, vastly cheaper than Honda (like half price) and really has gone well. Done only 30-40 hrs with it though so not much. I make sure I run all small engines out of fuel before storage and empty old fuel out. Unleaded does NOT store well.

At 5 times the price of a kipor. My little 700  watt ran both my weacos and a 8 amp battery charger and only $400.

I am glad some of you have had some positive experience with the Kipors.

I cant say I have. With my work they have proven to be very unreliable and spend more time in the shop getting fixed than out in the feild being used. We have currently thrown out about 12 of the 18 that were being used & since replaced with Hondas.

Just a question on your fridge, as you have a Jayco I'm assuming it is a 3way right??

Also is the gennie only for when your not camped in a van park, to keep the batteries up for your sleep machine at night??

I bought my gennie to keep my second battery charged to run my  fridges. Everything else is a bonus.


At $400 it is a bonus by it's self.
