20l bucket for fire

Where can I find around a 20l drum in new condition to boil water on fire or burner. Must have a lid.

A Jerry can is handy , It can carry water to camp , stand by the fire  & its easy to pore when needed .  At Rays or BCF you can buy a hot water dispencer that when hot will give you hot as you pore in cold

Found it in the inlaws shed.  My partner and brother in law worked in pubs for many years, so they might have 'acquired' it.

Yeah,  Long story short, their property burnt down in the 09 bushfires and things like this were the only survivors.  So we salvaged and recycled them.

I Made them a wood fired BBQ out of their old BBQ, a 44 gallon drum and a pile of rusty steel.

most camping stores & fishing shops carry them

Take away shops get there deep fryer oil in 25l steel drums with lids.

Large commercial air con companies have oil drums in 20 lt, same with car service places.
Some hot water and detergent, good to go.

A couple of pics







Drilled a hole in the side and welded on a pipe joiner.   A 2" to 1" reducer screwed into the top perfectly and a 2 foot length of threaded pipe cut to the right lengths serve as the pick up and spout.

I just need to get an old stainless steel pot from the op shop and drill and screw to it the top.  It's a bit hard to tip water in at the moment.

Do these bucket rust out. That's why I'm leaning towards an old keg.

Burn out more likely!

Treat them nicely and keep them away from a direct raging inferno and they'll last for many years.

Kegs would last longer however.

Another thought, maybe a stainless bucket like a milk pail. No lid but there seems to be some cheaper imported ones available.
