Hi - looking for a reasonably priced roofrack for the GU (will post details about the car soon, still waiting to get some good photos).
I found this unit off eBay - it's cheap and cheap usually screams poor quality.

I'm not sure if I would keep it on all the time, would be used for swags, kids bike, spare wheel that kind of thing on the longer than usual trips.

Love to hear from people who may have brought one, what are they like.

Other option was the Tigerz roof rack - bit more pricey.

Both racks look very similar, I'm not sure how much they would weigh though. Tommo off the forum here has a Tigerz11 mounted to his GUIV, I think he has pics in the 4WD section of the forum.

$400 seems cheap too.

Rich - I would have to agree, there is cheap but then there is cheap! Might give Thommo a raz and see what he thinks of the tigerz rack.

I have the very same rack +/- a couple of locating holes, mine is a Powerful 4x4 rack, i paid a bit more as it was part of a deal i had done.

Good price i'd say, as for quality, mine hasnt let me down, i did a fair bit off looking around before i bought mine, and i'd say it stacks up very well compared to the ARB types out there, in fact, if you can believe it, the powerful guys say that the rack is made in the same factory, (prob china) as the ARB ones !!!!!!!.

In any event, ur price is good, and the rack well time will tell i suppose, i wouldnt think u would have any dramas, the only thing is... that it is a very heavy beast... if ur going to remove it and then place it back on when u wont to go away etc, perhaps u should consider an alloy job, for me i will be doin this very thing for my next veh.

Also check the height of ur garage before u buy if u intend on having ur veh in the garage overnight etc, i had to have my rack reduced in height for it to fit in the garage, and it was a bit of a stuff around.

Swanny just to clarify - do you have the first link or second link? Good point regarding height.

I bought a used ARB rack off ebay for $150.00... bargains are had when you wait and look around.

Agree - but waiting and looking isn't always an option  ;D

I've had a Tigerz on my GU for about 4 years now.  Can't fault it.  And had it a bit loaded at times to the dump.

After spending many, many weeks searching for a used ARB full length roof rack in VIC!! I purchased a $350 Chinese steel full length roof rack off eBay.

Initial thoughts; it was packed really well. After unpacking the rack and began assembling it soon became very obvious the rack was well 'cheap'.

The rack was made out of several lengths of steel for one side, weld spit in threads, lots of brackets didn't line up etc etc. So I have since sold the rack and continued the hunt for the non-existent ARB second hand well priced rack.

Perhaps the tigerz rack is the go?

I have a Tigerz11 rack and although it is not as nicely finished as the ARB rack, it is certainly plenty strong and I am fairly confident about longevity with it. The powdercoating is ordinary and in corners it is rusting (has been on the car for the best part of 12 months, car lives outside with no cover). Easy to fix with some rust converter and paint, but considering I paid just over $400 delivered (got a ridiculous deal) I could pay to have it stripped and powdercoated and still be happy with the overall outlay.

On weight - yes, stupidly heavy. You can fit it with one other person if you are both strong and tall, but ideally you'd have at least three people to fit it. Would be nice to have a high carport or shed to be able to lift it off with a pulley system and store it up against the ceiling.
