Yabbies in the Cooper Creek

Hi,

And here I was finding it hard to find a Yabbie net before this weekend.

looks like I just need to bring the shovel......oh and the garlic and butter

could be profitable with pet stores in coffs harbour selling yabbies for pets for $15 bucks each.

Very little Fish
Could of had crays for breaky lunch & dinner lol

I don't know much about Coopers Creek, but the yabbies, Murray crays, turtles etc do this in NSW along the Darling and in tributaries of the Murrumbidgee in the riverina when there is a black water event. The water becomes de-oxygenated when a heap of organic matter (read sheep poo) is washed in from rain and starts to decompose. They leave the water and sit at the edge.

Me and my brother-in-law went yabbying in Cooper Creek at the ford at Innamincka last year - we used milk crates to scoop them out of the fast flowing water downstream from the ford.  You could feel them flicking past your legs (bit disconcerting).  We got about a dozen good sized yabbies.  Good fun.

didn't get time to try for Yabbies in Cooper or Eyre creek, but did get a real nice feed (or 2) out of a Billabong on the Darling River- even chanced my luck with the old string and a bit of meat that won quite a few (3 at a time :wink: )

It was like this about 14 years ago I was out there with a mate and his old man, and we brought home a couple of 40 ltr eskys full, ah man they were good eating makes my mouth water...
