All said and done, Mike and Mal were/are actually quite nice blokes. They were my grandmothers neighbours at Marmong Point, Lake Macquarie (1.0hr north of Syd-a-ney). As a kid we always went to grandmas for every school holiday (love the place :cup:) and often saw the Leylands who always said g'day and were very friendly :D, not stuck up like so many celebs today. My gran said they were very nice neighbours too.
I remember when their 30 odd foot sailboat boat burnt to the waterline in Marmong harbour. Went to the water to go fishing but it was covered in crap from the fire, it was a sad day for them :'(. The look on their faces said it all.
All these legends are slowing camping for the last time, but I know that I, for one, got the thirst for adventure watching these legends and we all carry on what they started. (At least they dont have to put up with all the track closures, greenies and bull crap political correctness gone mad anymore  >:().
Long live adventure!

The leyland brothers on tv are actually one of my earliest tv memories. I grew up watching this sort of thing, Jack Absolum, Malcom Douglass, Les Hiddens etc and without a doubt they are partly responsible for my wanderings today. I am trying to pass this on to my children and i hope they do the same.
