A Ground Sheet Querie Regarding Condensation Build Up.

I was wondering if placing a ground sheet underneath your camper trailer would stop the moisture build up on the kids stretcher beds. It doesn't happen all the time but from time to time the foam mattresses on there stretchers are dampish.

We always used a piece of shadecloth under the tent and never had any condensation issues.

The only condensation is on the kids beds, From underneath. Is that what you had?

No kids beds but the wife used that area as a floordrobe and she never complained her clothes were wet.

I think the warmth form the kids might be drawing up the moisture.

What part of the beds sits on the floor? Condensation is water vapour in air turning back to liquid when it cools against a surface, so air flow will reduce this, or you'll need to camp closer to the Antarctic, where it's too cold for water to form vapour  .

We have bunks, so they are off the floor, but we also put a piece of marine carpet down then sit the buks on that. Keeps the warmth in too.

Our beds are also off the floor, Like I mentioned in the first post they are stretcher beds so there on legs with a swag style foam matress on top.  The kids are in good quality sleeping bags so it doesnt get through to them. Is is rising from below them as the top of the mattress is bone dry.
As for camping in near the Antactic, well its the colder nights that the "moisture' appears.

We have not had a problem and the kids sleep on stretchers as well. We use a layer of roofing insulation under the tent section that gives us a protective soft layer for the vinyl floor and also insulation. At the end of the stay it packs up under the dust cover for some extra protection to the canvas. If you want some let me know, i have a small amount left

It doesn't happpen every night but we found it to be more common on cold nights. For example last week in Mansfield there was no problem because it was warm  The south of WA was right in the grips of winter and it was very noticable then.

We camped in a tent last Easter then the CT recently and havent had the problem. We have a set of bunks and a stretcher. They all have one of those roll up blue foam mat things and a sheet over the top, then their sleeping bag. We also have good quality sleeping bags.

OK looking back at the old camper that is in the pic I posted with the strecher nade me think back to when we used to tow it all over the country. We never had the moisture issue with the floor in that camper. The floor quality in the Dingo was better than my current trailer, In saying that it hasn't got any rips or holes considering the terrain we have camped on.

This is just a thought.
