Water tanks for the CT

The Camping & caravan show is coming to the Caulfield Race Course again early March . Its time to do the reserch on water tanks so who better to ask than Swaggers . I reckon 60 to 80 liters will do a pump ,,,, electric ,,, Ummmm what else do I need . You know the drill confuse me with muilitude of replys & how much do I pay for the bits etc . Dont tell my SWOMBO as I want to surprise her ( she said no more Mods )

We have 60 litres and a Jabsco automatic pump. A recent very hot trip to Myall lakes saw us use only 40 litres in 4 days for cooking, drinking, coffee etc for the 4 of us. Although we other water for showers etc.

Usage depends on several things. If youhave no other means of washing then your use goes up to 12-15 litres per day each.

Make sure you get a roto moulded polyethelene as you don't need a stone guard for them. 60L is a bit small, I'd go for 80L.

I would go for a Stainless steel tank, there are quiet a few on the market

I myself like the look of the stainless, but have a feeling they may be very thin. Would be intresting to know how thick the sheet is.. also hard to roadside repair.!

X2 but i'd still use a stone gard on the foward face as ours suffered some good chips. 80L with a whale in line 12 volt pump and a hand pump at kitchen.

I made a stainless one and the down side is with all the flexing one of the welds cracked. A metal tank will inflate a suprising amount when just being filled. Mine is mounted under the tray of the ute and you can hear the whole tray flex, and lift if I'm not paying attention to the hose, as the water goes in.

Next time I'd go plastic.

Team it up with a Shurflo diaphram pump with a pressure switch and bobs your uncle.

Ours is a Camec, bought on special from BCF.
80-100 litres would be better though as it would allow showers for 2-3 days. After carrying 2 x 20 lt blocks having the extra is good.

This usually happens when made without enough strengthening ribs and if the sheet is a little thin but the ribs are the key to stop flexing, the one on my CT is going great, its an Xtail tank and was advertised in Camper Trailer Touring page 159 of edition No 14 under new products

That's a fairly good price.
The pump looks like a Jabco that I bought for $125 at Bias boating. A Newcastle trailer hardware supplier has the tank for $225.
