Does anyone know of a way to get rid of ants from a wood shed??
We usually have a few ants but this year they are on or in every bit of wood.  They are the very small type of ant.
We have an open fire place so dont want to use any harsh chemicals as then when we burn the wood we will End up breathing it all in.  They vanish for a few days so I put some in the wheel barrow and by the time I get to the house they  come out of the wood and have taken over the barrow!!
I have tried using ant spray that we use on the veggie patch but that only works for a few hours.

Any suggestions??

Is that a barrier type thing or sprinkle over the wood.  Will call into bunnings and grab some today

My Father in-law was a bit of a greenie so his house was surrounded by large trees, but he always encouraged ants around the house. Reason is whenever he found termites he would put food near the termite trail and once thousands of ants arrived he would put a hole in the termite trail and within days the little ants had eaten the termites in the trail/nest.

In the 20 years of doing this, his house was the only house in his area which didn't need repair work from termite damage.

Just something to consider

Prefer ants to termites any day, i would leave them alone.

Agree, black ants are better to have than white ants, Ps ants won't walk across Talcum Powder either, try that

When I was faced with a similar problem I would just get the gas burner out and throw the flame over the wood pieces to give the ants a bit of a hurry up

We are going through an ant plague around here at the moment. I had the house professionally sprayed about 2 months ago and they are back already. I am trying borax and peanut butter in a container on various trails as of tonight. I will report on how I go.

Thanks for the replies.  I dont mind having a few ants around to keep the white buggers away but there is just to many at the moment.  I got some of the mortien ant sand and it seems to have worked.  The first barrow load inside had no sign of ants so fingers crossed it stays that way.  Cheers
