info on any good family style south coast camping grounds for the camper trailer

hi, i got the new camper trailer,  wife and 2 kids now looking to get out there and have a look around,  been on all the websites looking for camp grounds near the beach, there are so many its hard to know where to start, it will be our first south coast run so it would be good to start off right, we just did a run to forster to lanis island tonys point camp ground, it was great camped by the lake and no set areas to have to setup in, it just first in setup where you like good stuff, and with about 2 klm's of dirt rd getting to the point you feel like your camping , even though your like 10 minutes from forster,

but a lot of other camp ground sites i have seen are all mapped out with bollards and set little flat areas all lined up like cattle,  not really what i'm looking for
 
anyone got a campground like this they might want to share,
looking for a more natural camp area not a setup mapped out generic type spot,  but amenities like hot showers is great but not priority,  a campground thats among the trees, near the beach, open to set up where you like,  not shoved in a corner like some, and room to move,  and things around for the kids to explore and ride there bikes, being able to have a fire would be great, and if we could drive on the beach that would be a bonus , ideas anyone ?

I'm sure there is a few around, but good campgrounds near the beach are hard to find, as most will be van parks.

There are a few nat parks down the sth coast that might fit the bill, but where roughly do you want to go ?

I m guessing your from SYD... so might be a little to far south coast for you...

Check out mimosa rocks national park - Gillards Beach... grassy sites right behind the sand dunes. No showers but that's what the beach is for. Tho camping areas aren't that level can we a bit tricky getting a good spot for a soft floor camper. Dirt road off the HWY out to beach is a little windy one short steep bit that keep most on road vans out. Other wise its 2WD dry weather.

well yeah if i can get the lot i'll be happy,  but seriously when i look on the web there are so many its hard to know, it would be great to get the first few trips out started right, i was surprised at lanis i thought it would be a real generic big 4 style which it is at the start,  but out back the point is a whole different thing,

anyway i am in sydney ( manly area )  eventually will travel anywhere , but i figure may as well knock off the closer spots first,  at this point i been looking at areas around pebbly beach, one that caught my eye is called bendalong point, another was depot beach,  but in general been looking around that jervis bay area,  or say around up to 4 hours from sydney,  i figure surely there must be a few worthwhile within 4 hours of sydney ,  but  as said in the end i'll be going anywhere and everywhere....the beach stuff is always good for the kids and i'm trying to ween them off the hotels we have been staying in over the years....so if i can get the first few trips out right the family hopefully will come back for more...

You mention Bendalong Point. Great spot, I have stayed there a week every year for 6 years now. Plenty of trees, plenty of stuff for the kids to do, has been safe for the kids and gear. Has walking access to three beaches. And nice and quiet away from developed areas.

Very recommended.

Not the south coast by Camp Treachery up near Seal Rocks is like that. Rock up find a spot and camp. Gets v busy though.

Most places on the South Coast are caravan parks / National Park campgrounds so you are stuck with allocated spots. Halfway between Ulladulla and Bateman's bay - Pretty Beach is right on the beach but is a National Park campground. Surrounded by trees and national park. Pebbly and Depot beach are a bit further down the road

Forgot to say Merry Beach is a campground but without the Big 4 accoutrements. Swimming pool yes. No playground, tv room or camp kitchen. New managers are putting in a playground though. 

But you can camp right on the beach and have fires. High proportion of permanent vans up the back.

looked up camp treachery, this even though not south sounds perfect, this is one i might check out sometime, i have camped nearby in tents a few years ago at bushlands sandbar that was pretty good,  but treachery does sound a beauty except i get the feeling from what i read its always crowded, we can go anytime so this one would be a midweek thing i think,  anyway thanks all good...

Treachery is nice, but a fair walk to the beach.  Seal Rocks van park would be my pick with kids.

Myall River Camp is a fav of mine.  Or Mungo Brush.

If you don't mind van parks, the 3 or 4 around Nelsons Bay are good.  Or the hidden gem of the central coast...Patonga.

Can't go past Dalmeny. Right on a headland overlooking the beach - many others also close by. Staying there for the 3rd time this January.

Been there, never stayed there, but I'm sure you won't be disappointed.  If you have kids, keep the sunscreen handy because you won't be able to keep them out of the water !!

Hi there, I can fully recommend Depot beach camp ground in murramarang national park, or pretty beach near Hawley point.  Just had the weekend at pretty beach.  The toilets, showers were spotless, coin operated, no phone range (yay).

Yep! Love the south coast!
Two that we have stayed at have already been mentioned- and I would heartily second them both: Dalmeny, and Depot Beach- in that order- both so close to the beach!
Another that we have found, have not stayed at but is def on our to-do list is Mystery Bay.

hi, thanks for the ideas, I went to bendalong point, wow this is the place to go, we rolled up there on thursday so beat the weekend rush and scored the headland sites, there is room for about 3 setups right on the point its unmarked so setup anywhere,  we had our pick and pretty much took up the point with 2 camper trailers,  uninterrupted views over the ocean thru the trees, 2 minute walk to the beach and the kids were patting stingrays, yeah big muthers  easy over 1 metre wide maybe 1.5 metre lots of them just cruising in the water about half a metre deep kids loved it,  lots of kangaroos , 1 big guy raided out food late one night grabbed all the chips and hopped away, hot showers, jump pillow for kids, kids ride there bikes around camp,  and Ulladulla 30 minutes away for the wifes shopping and my burger, good stuff, now looking for the next one
