Drifta package (slide out with return and full length box)

Hey fellas

Anybody out there brought one of these kitchens lately? Trying to decide if I should buy one or make one..
Anybody know much about the skids they use on the bottom??

I have a drifta full slide out with return. I don't have the slide out box.

They are great, well made, well thought out, and their service is great. .I'm not super handy, so wouldn't have tried to make one.
I believe the skids are a type of nylon strip that's attached to the bottom.

Thanks for the feed back mark. One question mark does your trailer have any kind of lip on the bottom where your rear barn door closes?

Quoting from the Drifta website under the FAQ's 'Why buy a Drifta drawer', the slide material is "HDPE" (high density polyethylene). 

You can buy the plastic from specialist plastic suppliers.  I have just bought some UHMWPE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene)
to use as drawer slides in my next project.  The UHMWPE is stronger and more abrasion resistant than HDPE. 

I have used the UHMWPE before, but as a self adhesive 1/32" thick used as slides and they worked great.  A quick spray and wipe off with silicon spray and they are very slippery.

We have a fridge box DPOR with full length pantry drawer. Love it! best thing we added to our camper, space for everything and no need to rummage around in plastic containers like we did when tent camping.

I think it is cheap for what it is, but it is still alot of money.
We werent interested in trying to build our own, we didnt have all the required tools and while we have know how it would still have been a bit of trial and error which would have taken longer and probably required us to buy extra material to replace the pieces we made mistakes on. All though we did not add up the difference I am not sure it would have been worth our while once we factored tools, time, stress, materials..... replacement materials!
The added benefit of not making it is that we supported a company that is unique in the camping scene.

Our camper has no lip near the door.

There's a few swaggers here who have used trailer boat sliders for theirs - can get from whitfords, bcf or carac, usually blue in colour. I wasn't sure you could buy the HDPE material or similar so something to suss out - cheers to cracka for that.

I wanted a storage box and a kitchen storage area in my trailer and decided to build it myself - learn the skills (and how not to do it), plus buying more tools is always good. I didn't mind forking out for the tools, wood and supplies because the skills/supplies I've picked up along the way has allowed me to build other stuff as well so saved ourselves cash in that respect.

My trailer has also got a lip so was looking at getting a slider thick enough to sit flush or wedging it at the lip to make it run out smoothly is the idea. Haven't found anyone else on here that has had the same problem so if anyone got ideas?

Drifta is by far a brilliant company and their products are amazing - well built and brilliant customer service. If we had our perfect camper that we would keep for a long time, I would get it and enjoy it immediately. However the camper we have now is ok for now but not something we will keep for a long time, so couldn't justify getting it custom sized for our slightly irregular-sized camper.

How tall is your trailer lip? You can get skids in different thicknesses.  Here are some 10mm high.

So I went down the diy path, got some hdpolly C section and got into it! Making a pull out kitchen and full length storage box


The remaining openings will be draws, laminate top and "wet" end and a nice varnish on the remaining surfaces

Yep got all the cost:
High density prolly sliders- $135
Ply- 700mm bottle of wild turkey ($50)
Sure flow tap and pump - $145
That's all I've had to out lay to date, I've got 6 sets of draw runners coming -$30
And I'll have to hunt down some laminate and that's all She wrote.
