Not to get into the whole multimedia V eye spy debate but I saw these on catch of the day and thought they may appeal to some,
we have a roof mounted monitor running a media player and I reckon they are the best for trips.

Yeah remember the trip around Oz with the tackers and younger daughter's turn starting with 'd' and none of us got the 'caravan' answer. That's 'daravan' says older brother non-plussed and calling foul so that's what we used to call them occasionally after that much to her nibs disdain.
There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

You mean you can still get away with the kids without an ipad each nowadays? (yeah I've got young nephews and nieces)

I agree, and when the dog looses interest in the kids, you just tie a chop around their neck and the dog is keen as mustard again.

Nothing wrong with an ipad/dvd to keep the parents sane. Maybe some of you forget the long drives with a screaming 2yr. old? I'm looking at the rear headrest dvd combo thingy. In moderation they are fine.

We took all electronic devices away from our kids last year and again on our recent trip and gave them pad and texta. Best move we made. They talked, laughed and took in the amazing landscapes we were traveling through as well as keeping tabs of the different wildlife they seen. DVD and tablets have their time and place just not all day driving.

I got a DVD headrest TV off eBay and it's great gives me time to setup and get some shade up for the little ones before I get them out of the car now I don't agree with letting them just overdose on abc for kids or the like but they do have a place

Each year we go on a holiday which means 2 or 3 full days driving each way, so these little TV screens on the head rest and Ipads definitely have their place. It's not just about keeping the kids happy, but it's also keeping us parent's sain.

These aren't used all day as we do play games like I spy and talk about what we see out the windows. Both kids normally beg to read books or colour in while on these road trips, but seeing they both get car sick when looking down any longer than 10 minutes we had to stop them bringing these in the car.

Ouch...
But yes I'm getting that way. I've just pulled the dvd's out of the Patrol and they aren't going back in. They have been a godsend in the past, but it appears as my lovely children get older they are becoming less responsible. Go figure.
I'll just wear headphones in future and their mother can deal with them.
