Part of our planning involves going from Coober Pedy north to Arkaringa, through the Painted Desert to Oodnadatta to Uluru and the Peterman Ranges. What I would like to know is this feasible with the "hard sided, hard top" camper or is it strictly hard core stuff  ???

More questions to come in the fullness of time  ;D

When we did it 2 years ago, but in the opposite direction, I would say it was totally feasible with a camper. Might be different now.

Keith,

In 2011 we came back from the West via the GCR and Oodnadatta.

The worst road conditions we encountered were:
WA border to Kata Tjuta (sandy and badly corrugated)
Oodnadatta Track, from just north of Oodnadatta to the Marla turn-off (not far, but very badly cut up)

They could well be OK now.

As usual, drive to the conditions......

yea similar to Geoff... depends on if its been worked on recently - although DDR's dad ended up getting rained into Marree for 2 weeks with bad weather when he came through there.. the road to Lyndhurst was impassable.. and he had a real 4wd! :P

So weather will make a massive difference.. just keep an eye on it.

We went Coober - Cadney Homestead - Arkaringa - track was pretty gnarly and at that time wouldn't take a CV that way, but that could be completely different now.
From memory the road from Arkaringa to Oodna was in good order which I assume is the way you'll be going in?

Don't take this the wrong way, but this thread has helped me decide on whether a van was going to be a feasible option in my search for what to upgrade to. Maybe not yet.
