Im after some info on upgrading the speakers in the patrol.

Now the patrol is an 05 ST and I have already upgraded the headdeck to a double din alpine unit.  At this point in time im not after head banging doof doof, although it may be on the agenda later. I have had the doof doof in previous cars and yes it does sound good.

All im after is some crystal clear sound.

I have heard  any people say that the patrols will fit 6inch speakers then others say they will fit 6.5s. I know to get good quality sound I should really be fitting splits but I dont want to be cutting holes in the interior nor do I want these poxy looking speakers tex screwed on the door cards or the pillars anywhere.

I will be upgrading the 4 speakers at once and maybe later I may consider possibly installing an amp to run a smallish sub but I need approval from the minister of finances.

I should stop rambling on and get to the point. So basically what im asking is what has everyone fitted to there vehicles and what do you think of it.

this is the info I got from him

QuoteHey mate,
As far as speaker fitment goes in the patrol, you can get reasonable size speakers in there.
My car isn't the best example as it has different door trims.
However I only just finished a 1998 ti for a friend.

We got the following to fit with no dramas.
* pioneer TSD series 6 1/2" components (front)
* pioneer TSD series 6 1/2" coaxials (rear doors)

And the four channel amp under the drivers seat.

The jaycar speakers are OK but as I can't see you getting rid of the troll any time soon I would probably invest in the following.
They are both very slim depth speakers and fit no problem at all.

* Polk db6501 (components)
* Polk db651 (coaxials)
They are very clear sounding speakers and are also marine certified.
So the biggest advantage is that the dust and moisture doesn't affect them.
The down side is that they must run off of an amp, a standard unit won't run them as they are around the 100wrms each. So a minimum of 50wrms or 150wpeak is needed.

Cheers
Nick

Thanks mate. I will go check to see if the new head deck will run the polk speakers but I doubt it

I have already done a search. Hence the reason I put the post up as I couldn't find any detailed information as to what I wanted to know.

If you have the links handy please post them up please
