Bribie island

Hi all thinking of going to bribie for a week or 2 in January. Anyone able to tell me how crowded it gets there at that time if year and if the fishing is any good. Apart from a couple of weekenders it will be the first time the kids have been away camping so is there much entertainment for youngsters? Thanks all

Where were you planning on camping on Bribie and how close to the Xmas New Year period in January? There are 3 campgrounds that you can access by 4wd, all 3 camping areas (Ocean beach, Poverty Creek and Gallaghers Point) require you to pre-book and most have nominated or allocated camp spots.

You can book 6 months in advance and I often find it difficult to get a spot in peak times unless you book 6 months out, I'd suggest checking availability online via this page http://parks.nprsr.qld.gov.au/permits/

I love camping at Bribie and have camped in on the surf side 3 times in the last 6 weeks. I don't want to sound negative, but due to the Mozzies and Horse Flies I no longer camp at Bribie middle of summer.  We will still do lots of day trips as your pretty safe on the beach, but around the camp sites we were driven crazy.

So if you do decide to go, just make sure you take lots of repellent.

You might be able to get a spot in the group/ camper trailer area, but as Beachman has already mentioned the mozzies and sandflies on that side of the island can be ferocious at that time of the year. The other thing to consider is the Northern access track is often closed over summer especially if we have a lot of rain...

We tend to head to Bribie between Easter and this time of year, great weather and fewer mozzies.

We normally camp at poverty creek at Easter. Good weather and a fun drive through the Northern Access Track to the surf beach and WW2 bunkers

hey guys,

anyone hit the beach lately at Bribie? Am keen to head up there tomorrow to let the kids run wild and have a bbq / quiet drink on the beach.

High tide is at 1pm saturday (9/11/13). anyone know if at high on bribie if there is any sand left or is there no where to go if you get caught at high tide?

Also, any suggestions of places to go while on the beach would be appreciated   Never been there before apart from the surf club for a meal.

Hope the weather holds out, this week has been sensational !!! Love this time of the year

I have hit the beach many times at High Tide for day trips, but is saying that we normally don't go past the 2nd lagoon. So while doing the soft sand slog isn't a problem for 10 minutes, I don't know if you would be able to drive all the way up to the camping area.

Another option is to take the inland track and spend the day up near the camping area.

I did take the inland track, it was not too bad. A few soft patches with a few cars stuck.

Dam wind was pumping today, the beach was no good for the kids. 1 hr from high tide, still plenty of beach to drive on, not too soft.

Coming from north to south, at the cutting to get off the beach, there again was a a handful of stuck 4x4's. That first lagoon looks like the pick of the spots to put up the marquee and light the bbq

4th Lagoon. a few dead birds in there, was not that inviting...Infact, we counted about 60 dead birds on the beach during the trip
