Pros & cons of staying at Orchid Beach Vs Happy Valley/Eurong Fraser Is.?

Looks like we are booking 12 nights in a house over on Fraser. We have a house picked at Orchid Beach But one of the other families coming would rather the southern end of the island.( it looks like they will be out voted 3 to 1). Just wondering if it's much of a muchness or is one end better than the other?
Any feedback would be great.

We normally stay down near Eurong, New Years 2013 stayed up at Orchid Beach, I found options were limited at High Tide up at Orchid Beach, whereas down south tide isnt as much of a hindrance, thats just how I felt anyway.
Having said that, I did find up north very nice, Wathumba was excellent, Sandy Cape awesome, the fishing was better up there but less pippies than down south.

To explore the island for those who've not been there before, the Southern end of the island is a better option IMHO. If I was to go there myself being I've been to Fraser many times already I'd stay at Orchid Beach myself, as I wouldn't plan on driving so much of the island

Couldn't agree more. Definitely more to do on the southern end.
Most of the lakes and cross island tracks are at the south. Personal preference but we prefer to do a couple of day trips north rather than the other way around.

More Swedish types to see south aswell.
