Does anyone know of a reasonable spot to stay over this chrsitmas up there? just considering going at this stage. Jacobs well is the only spot I know of but locals have better knowledge of their area (hopefully). If we go we'll take the missus's car and leave the fourby at home with the rest of the crew.

thanks in advance

Sorry mate, but the question is why Beenleigh... doesn't have much to offer.....could think of better places to go for a holiday...

Beachman

I was also thinking the same thing as to why someone would want to stay around Beenleigh. Is there something you want to do in your stay or are you looking for something on the outskirts of Brisbane or the Gold Coast??

Rumpig

are you talking about a reasonable spot to camp at or looking for actual accomodation?

Sorry for the late response, We've been up in the high country ;D, My parents live at Ormeau hence the reason to stay near there. There is not much to choose from but possibly the caravan park at Jacobs Well or I believe there is another near Movieworld

I've fished Jacobs Well a few times and it's a nice spot and the caravan park backs into the boat ramp. I haven't paid much attention to the park but think it was okay.

Off memory the caravan park near Movieworld is on the service road, so this is a stones throw from the highway, so you would have to hear the road noise.

So if it was me, I would be picking Jacob's Well.

Do NOT camp at Beenleigh.  I can't stress this enough.

Jacobs Well is closer, but how fond of sand fleas are you?  You'd have to be seriously fond of sand fleas and love them to the ends of the earth, to even consider camping there ... although it is a nice spot if you are a boatie.  Jetty very close by and the smell of salt in the air.

Why not do a search on the net for a scout camp in that general area?  I know of 2 and they'll be cheap and cheerful and not that far away.

All other camping options (excluding CVP's) are up to 1/2 hour plus away, but you'd be in a bush setting and possibly near some water.

Thunderbird Park Tamborine Mountain
Tamborine Mountain CVP
Scout Camp at Guanaba
Spring Gully Stays - 14k south Canungra
Canungra Show Ground - it's near the pub
Sharp Park / River Bend Country Camping - it's also right opposite another scout camp so that's a third option in exact area - 4k east of Canungra

There are others, but they are further away again.

P.S.  How big is the olds back yard?
P.P.S  I'd offer up my backyard, but there is no way into it for a vehicle of any kind (shopping trolley excepted).

Thnaks everyone I'll check them out! My olds live in a "village" hence there is no back yard. Still chasing up some promising options on Gumtree at the moment. We do intend to have a look around Canungra as my old man has his name on a memorial Grotto and a tree planted with his name referenced as part of the AATTV in Vietnam.

My missus is not a fan of sandflies at anytime and it seems they are an issue at that time of the year there? We have stayed at Jacobs Well Before with the camper but will be tenting it for part of the trip

For the good lords sake don't camp at beenleigh

It is where hope goes to die

Thunderbird park is really dusty and ugly ATM

Try  http://www.springgullystays.com.au/ pretty stop, 10 min out of canungra, not packed out like sharp park

Jacobs well is nice if you don't attract mozzies, I don't, and have never had a problem, my son does and gets eatin pretty bad

As everyone has said don't bother with beenleigh, but if you are intent on staying there they do have show grounds that you can stay at... BUT DON'T DO IT...
I'd stay at canungra show grounds in heart beat...

there's plenty of nice spots out around those parts depending on just where you want to go on your trip. Darlington Park closer to Beaudesert is a nicer spot IMHO though further away from Beenleigh area, and then there's Sharp Park back Canungra way aswell.
Canungra showgrounds has the advantage of powered sites if that's what people need, there's heaps of switch boards dotted around the main field but it also has non powered area closer to the creek also.
