Ok folks I have a customer who wants one of my GT trailers with The Lot including a portable toilet. I know a bit about lots of stuff and lots about bits of other stuff... but nothing about portable dunnies so can you good people throw some brand names, experiences, plusses and minusses at me? I wish to present my customer with two or three choices.

My only hardware requirement is that it fit behind a 650mm square door and be strapped/tied down easily.

Comments, recommendations, experiences appreciated!

Get the 20 lit waste tank model.

Higher pedestal height than 10 or 15 lit.

Put a "female only"  and "No 1 only" sticker on the lid!!

x2 for the Thetford's well made, no leaks...not sure if you would get away with the sticker though!!!

X 3 on Thetford. Get the biggest one they make. Which will easilly fit under your door. You will find them at any camping shop. No 2's are OK. They are not that bad to empty out. It just goes down the dunny at home.

We've actually got 2, our original one was too big to fit under the bed in our van so we had to get a downsized one and miss the larger holding tank.

How many "goes" before these things need to be emptied?

How many days use, 2 adults........1's + 2's for her, 2's only for him........??

Has anyone tried the Aldi camp toilets? They are in stores this week for around $70.

We have one of the Aldi toilets and have no complaints at all. Have done a couple of two night camps with it (there are fiveof us in total) and found it great. I am lucky enough that I have a property where I can just go down the paddock, dig a hole and dispose of the waste.

Hi,
haven't used ours yet, it came with the Innovan, but maybe one day.

When we recently had some plumbing work done at home on the sewer line, I got the plumber to put in a riser to an inspection opening in the garden. I will probably use this as an out side dump point rather than the indoor dunny.

cheers

We use one of the Aldi 20ltr loo's and usually it is only for the girls number 1's and it generally lasts several days at that rate.

We like the taller 20ltr because it is more like sitting on your home loo, I have used a smaller 10ltr and it is too low, it needs to be sitting up on something. Also the 10ltr has too small of a capacity IMHO....nothing worse than trying to push loo paper down the hole because it has filled up after a couple of uses!!

One thing i have learnt about the cheaper units is that the holding tank for the flusher can leak while travelling........it only leaks into the loo but when the pooper valve is closed this allows the water to splash up out of the loo. The solution is to ever so slightly crack open the pooper valve to allow the fresh leaking water to run down into the smelly area but only open it just enough to not allow any of the smelly stuff back out if you happen to travel with the loo full.

Most of the time we would try to avoid travelling with a loo that contains wee but there has been the odd occasion where it had to be done.

Probably about 4-6 days for the big one. It helps if you are a folder not a scruncher! I am well trained cos I grew up with septic systems but I have to remind the other half.

The red one looks nice but I doubt it will fit in the storage cabinet...  ;D
