Does any one have any opinions on the engine in the new model?

Are they playing on the "dura max" reputation to give not yet deserved good reputation?

The pricing of the new model is quite sharp, my brain hurts I don't know what to do I've got no loyalty to a brand but want a new ute soon-ish

something you may consider; the D-Max retains the "old" Isuzu 3.0-litre engine

Yep I am considering that but the current Colorado is a lot cheaper

I have see 8 colorado's, on drive days and driver training, that 6 of them would not engage 4wd and 2 that did not disengage 4wd.
IMO the motor is noisy in side and out,  but makes good power for its size.

If it uses a similar system to the old model ( I havenlt driven the new yet), the vehicle must be moved to engage 4WD to allow the driveline's splines to line up, this means you must engage 4WD before you need to; it (often) cannot be engaged after the vehicle gets stuck

I am considering a new ute too. I haven't had a look at the Colorado yet, but the specs and price put it to the top of the list already. I'm going to have a look at one this week.

Dmax engine may be old, but is bullet proof and 380nm on tap is more than enough to do anything. It's a truck built by a truck company

I reckon the BT 50 / Ranger are better options than the Colorado

we tried driving the car, running the cars on the hoist and hitting it with 24 volts on the electric motor that selects 4wd ,
they would not go in and the 2 would not come out,

well that seems like a problem! What was the outcome with dealer/tech/warranty?

Yeah I agree,  I wasn't sledging the "old" D-Max engine - hence the quote marks - just highlighting the fact this well-respected and known unit is carry-over into the new D-Max. Design-wise, it's actually only about five years old and Isuzu knows how to do diesel ;)

A bloke I know is racing one in WA right now...

the last one has not rebooked his driving training course,
they would have to be fixed under warranty as 7 of the 8 cars had under 100km on them and the last one had 2500km

I know the engine and gearboxes are different with the dmax and Colorado but do they share the same transfer case?

I think (but I'm not sure) that the new 2.8 CRD Duramax engine is a VM Motori design from Italy which is built under licence in Thailand by GM.  If so it is the same engine used in the diesel Jeep Cherokees since 2002 and it has a very good reputation.

VM Motori is 50% owned by GM. the other 50% is owned by GAZ, a Russian manufacturer.

The wife and I have just purchased the new Colorado. It's the LT model in auto with tow bar for under $40000 drive away. But hard to say no at that price. Now we wait for them to find one in the colour we want.

Would have looked at the DMax but they aren't even close to the $40000 mark drive away.

This is replacing our old girl 80 as she isn't well as our tow rig.
