Retaining wall needed

Does anyone here build retaining walls for a living
Able to do work in the hill district of Sydney

I need one built and thought I'd ask here before calling around

Just need a treated pine 2.4 by 3.5 mtr high

OB you might have to step it if you have room. 3.5m high is another 3m in the ground.

Not sure whether anyone does logs that long for domestic purposes, although I have seen plenty of roadside walls with big vertical rise in one section.

Not sure about your local council requirements.  However a 3.5m  wall is likely to need council approval ... and engineering plans.  Would help you out if I was closer.

I vic any retaining wall 1Mtr and over in height must have a building permit which means engineering comps., inspection etc. For a 3 metre high wall you will need minimum 6 metre H section steel uprights, which from memory weighs about 50 kg's per metre . This work can be done with a 5 ton excavator but much safer with a 7 or 9 tonner.
The interlocking brick system is easier but more labor intensive and can be done bit at a time once the foundation and 1st 2 or 3 courses are done.

900 mm in Sydney.... any bigger than that need council/engineer... As xcavator stated, a lot of pressure at 3.5 meters

As BHG mentioned.
Anything over .9 Meter needs all the I dotted & the T's crossed with local council.
A lot of water can build up behind a wall, no matter what you construct it out of, all the right drainage need to be done.

In Baulkham Hills council, its a lot easier to get a private certifier to help you.
Council is a real PITA to deal with.
Of course some may suggest that only 1 metre its not worth the bother of involving council, but I would never suggest that.

I built a 1.3m retaining wall myself. I did get it engineered and certified as it was 58 metres long and 1.3 high.
I used keystone blocks and it was really easy.
At 3.5m wide it should only take a couple of hours.

The wall is actually under my house and one of our foundations has fallen away ( not as bad As it sounds)

Recon 900 will be fine as a peak height

I have built a few retaining walls in my time and they are still retaining but as I need to put a new foundation foot behind this one I want it done right

Hornsby councils are the same I think 900 high so the wall will be you guessed it 900 high

Are you aware that if there is a new footing behind the wall, it will have to go down BELOW the base level of the wall ...
Might be easier to dig that before the wall goes in. And definately dont skimp  on the behind wall drainage !

Does that make sense?

I dont know if this could help , but l could send you some PDFPs to make things a bit easier . Just send me the required hole size for the footings so l can provide  Pre Dug Fire Pits converted to post holes . Its a low cost converstion .
Then send Huge amounts of  to my beer fridge / s, to aid in the production
Anybody else that wasnts a PDFP for their next trip can reply as well

I have a 0.9M retaining wall in my backyard. I will post up some pictures here when I get home from work tonight. It was made out of sandstone rocks and it is also where our awning attaches to.

It took me 4 weekends including the paving.
