Guys 'n Gals.

Planning on getting a roof rack canvas bag made up for larger (bulky) lighter things like comfy camp chairs.

Now, I see on the web that it is recommended that you place something between the cargo in the bag and actual roof rack to stop the canvas wearing through.

One idea is to put carpet on the roof rack and then place the bag on top of that. I do that when carrying firewood bags, but the carpet can get wet and soggy.

Does anyone put foam inside the canvas bag and will this work just as well?

Any other great ideas out there?

We put those cheap EVA closed cell foam floor mats cut to size in our roof bags, then use them at camp for the shower floor etc......

Howdy V8TL8

We have a Southern Cross Canvas roof top bag on top of the Prado

I use a piece of marine grade carpet(rubber backed) $20 at local carpet shop.
The thing I love about the S/C bag is they are expandable with a zip that allows it to go from 250mm to 450mm high.

Alternatively, just put soft, light bulky things in the bag, like pillows, clothes, sleeping bags etc.

Hi ondaboat

thanks for that, had not considered them yet but from their website I like the look of these and the fact that they are expandable height wise. Will add them to my short list and get some quotes from them.

My wife likes to take the 'comfy' camp chair with, with adjustable back rest etc, too bulky to easily fit in the Patrol, so I figured roof rack canvas bag for the camp chairs and perhaps a larger camp table to free up space in the 'trol.  Well if she's comfy all is good.

If you can keep them smiling like that you can get away with buying anything
