Also found an article on car expert with more info. Apparently the permit for unregistered cars is for 3 or more. But worse is they want a permit for dismantling and repairing vehicles on our own property!

Give them 2 weeks notice that you want to change a flat tyre, or swap out a flat battery ??? Hmm, that's a bit tricky! ::) >:(

& what is a "long heavy vehicle" ??? Is that a semi-trailer, or a caravan ???

Road Safety Act defines a "long vehicle" as any vehicle or combination of vehicles (ie car and trailer) over 7.5m long.
Heavy vehilce is over 4.5t GVM, so a "long, heavy vehicle" would be one over 7.5m long AND  over 4.5t GVM.

Which would hit our 18', single-axle (so not "big"), caravan, as it goes 7.7m tow-ball to back of the spare :'( >:(
