Hey everyone we r heading of next month for 5 wks our first trip really with CT can I ask what is the general procedure for collecting drinking water and disposing of waste from portaloo along the roads while mainly doing bush camping pls through NSW and vic

Fivid

There are a number of places you can empty caravan toilets, there is one here in Howlong just near the footy oval, Never having had a caravan or portaloo I have never had to use one of these things but I assume if you can empty a caravan into it you can do the same with the portaloo.

As for water, I would carry my own hose and just ask at a servo...  Couple of years ago with water restrictions servos were not happy to let you fill up but I don't think it is an issue now...

Cheers Dave ill pack a hose and fittings good idea

We filled up at servos too on our big trip. Always asked permission though. Information centres in towns are always a good place to ask about drinking water we found this while travelling through WA. We even filled up from parks etc. Just chat to other campers they can often point you in the right direction.

If you have the Camps Book there is a list of dump points in there or you should be able to print a list off the net.

Here is a Queensland list as per the post above. I bet you never knew there is a register of Public Toilets in Queensland, and I would say other states. I only know because I had to have an argument about a toilet we removed from a building and blah blah blah.

Anyway here is the relevant page.

With your hose as well take the two size adapters as some places have different size taps.

Have a great trip I am envious.

if filling from the servo (or anywhere really) check to see how the water tastes before you chuck it in the camper first. we filled a water bottle up at a servo at Laidley once after asking the attendant there if it was ok, an hour later at work in the middle of summer i went for a drink and the water tasted like petrol  >:( >:( we were on a property building a new house with no water supply and the only water we had in a 10 ltr container was undrinkable because we didn't check it first before filling the container.

I always take a 4 way vandal proof tap key with me. You can then access taps in parks and reserves, and footy ovals etc. , a very handy item !
You can get them at Bunning's and Plumbing shops etc. for under $15.

Hi Watto,
These links might help with planning your trip, The National Toilet Map
And for empting your Potty, Dump Points
Hope you guys have a ball. safe travels.

Thanks for the link Neil, We could of used one of those a couple of time on our trip.
We had taken all the different fittings and connectors, but they are useless when you can't turn the water on.

We find it easier to buy some water from the supermarket in 10 litre containers for drinking and just use the camper water for washing up and cooking. That way we haven't had to worry about water quality too much but we still check what goes into the camper.

yep - exactly what we do..... makes it easier for the kids to grab a cup and fill as well with the tap built in.....more likely they will drink water that way than asking for coke etc.
