Ironman 4X4 canopy...Broken Back Window!

G'day all,

The Hilux dual cab I picked up today has an Ironman 4X4 canopy on the back, being a first time dual cab/canopy user, does anyone know how dust proof these are?  Also is there anything I should keep an eye out for on it.

Don't know about the Ironman canopies but I had an ARB canopy which kept the dust out pretty good, Just needs a good seal between the canopy and the tub.

You'll need to seal the tailgate too, Clark Rubber have a great range of seals to do this.

I'd check  and see what sort of dust sealing has been used. I have a LowLine Canopy and it has High Density Foam around all joining surfaces with the tub and doors. I then added more HD Foam around the tailgate. You'll get more dust in from the tailgate that the canopy!!! Havernt used the Ironman Canopy, but did look at it in the store when i was there, and it looks ok.. the clip system which allows it to be taken off without bolts MAY compromise dust sealing, but I didnt look that closely at it as it wasnt my first chioce of canopy at the time....

Whilst we were out tonight someone decided to introduce the lift up rear window in the canopy to a rock.  Result, glass all over our freinds driveway and in the tray of the ute.  Do places like windscreen O'brien or Instant windscreens fix this type of glass, or do I need to order a new one from Ironman direct?

You could try Adelaide Total Glass (we use them at work) but when the rear window needed replacing on the ARB canopy I had on the old Triton ATD had to get it through ARB because of the hinge that comes pre glued to the window.

What a bugger...

To keep dust out of my ARB canopy I had on my hilux I used to just leave the front window open about 1 inch.

It creates a vacum if you put a plastic bag in there you can see it swirl as you drive.

I have a 96 Hilux that has a canvas canopy and we drove it offroad for 12 years including Gibb River Rd x3. We had no dust come into the back while the cabin was filled up. When I had it put on, I had a small window put in between the cab and the canopy. We leave this open unless it rains and it does create pressure in the back keeping the dust out. Yours being a hard canopy I would put a front facing vent at the top to presurise it. Most boat shops have one.

That's interesting about the canvas canopy being pressurised. Do you have any pics of your setup pls?

Some old pics. Not the best pics. If i get a chance to take some today (after I re-assemble the Prado dash) I will take better ones.

You can see the window open (rolled up) just behind the back door.

I also fitted a hard door on the back to stop it from "flapping" and releasing the pressure. It's also a lot easier to open.
