Anybody been camped out in a hail storm?   What advice can you pass on for protecting your gear?

If you are insured ... stay out of the hail ... if not insured ... get as much undercover as possible.  Have been in pea sized in a 4 man tent ... survived it rather well.

Had a big hail storm when we were camped up at Yamba. Was more worried about the car than the camper but both survived with no issues
cheers

get it off the camper as soon as possible you would be suprised how little gets so heavy. i have been worried about premature strecthing of the canvas with the sheer volume and weight of the hail. survived 2 good hail storms early october in north ballina. Normally not the hail thats the issue but the wind and rain that come with trying to lift the awning. Batten down the hatches and ride it out , have a good laugh after its gone.

if you know its coming, I'd say packup quick and ride it out.
if you dont know its coming, theres nothing you really can do.

This was Easter 2 years ago in Vic, no real warning and not much time to prepare !!

Luckily no damage to our camp but there were a few tents full of hail after the rain went through the roofs.

Note the hail on the Cruisers Bullbar it sure came down quick

Get your camping mattress out and put it across the roof of your tent ... well I've seen people do that with their cars so it must be a good idea.

Never been caught out with the camper in hail. I would just ride it out and push it off the canvas to prevent stretching and tearing of the canvas.

I have been caught out in hail while in the Jeep with no roof. I was with the mrs years ago before we were married. We just pulled over at a servo to wait out the rest of the storm and scooped the hail out of the jeep, no biggie. She still married me so it can't have been that bad. ;)

Cheers

With all the storm warnings generally listing large hail, thought it was a question that needed asking as we are about to embark on a 3 week camping trip.  Thanks for the replies so far.  Liked the photos as well.  I hope I won't be adding to the photos when I get back in the New Year.

stay under cover  as you can fix gear.   but not your self  and open the eski

I keep a very solid tarp that goes over the whole outfit, plus I always pack extra poles pegs and ropes for storm readiness, the stuff just slides off.
Only bad hail storm I ever got caught in was in Bowen Hills 1983-4, anyone remember it?
the one that hammered Brisbane's west around late 2005 missed my house by less than a kilometer.
