Change the tyres and wheels

Question for u's.

Not got a camper yet but looking hard.

I drive a GU Patrol with 17 inch tyres.

If I were to get a GIC CT, could I change the tyres and rims to suit my Patrol, or would that upset the apple cart?

Got a viewing this Sat to see an off road GIC.

Is the camper you're going to look at new, if so it might be a good question for the GIC staff.

I have a GIC offroad and tried to bolt on a 120 series Prado wheel. It wouldn't do up as it was touching the tub. I didn't spend a lot of time on it but I think I would have to undersling the CT axle but I need to check if the tent had room for the extra drop. Also I could probably fit a spacer to cure the tub rubbing issue but then I think the tyre would stick out of the guard or at least potentially hit the lip of the guard on compression of the suspension hence the underslinging of the axle.

If it is a used trailer anything can be done, but it comes down to cost.

Another option is to run 16inch rims with same sized tyres.

Few things to consider:

If the wheels are larger diameter than the originals, the tent may not peg down properly when folded out, due to increased trailer height,

You may lose wheel clearance in the guards, limiting suspension travel,

The offsets may cause clearance issues with inner/outer guard as mentioned above.

Sometimes you luck out, but sometimes it's probably not worth the grief, and easier to just carry an extra spare if need be..

Thx folks for the advice.
The camper I'm looking at is a 2011 Offroad GIC model.
The seller has only had it for 3 mths and not even registered it yet....

As said above you can change almost any thing to make it fit how you want.

If the rim offset is not right you can fit a different length axle and correct hubs for Patrol wheels. If the mudguards are not wide enough, you can use rubber flare strip to extend.

Anything is possible.

I took my suspension off and fitted independant swing arm suspension and Patrol hubs for 16" wheels and fitted matching wheels on Patrol and trailer. Took off the 17" and low profile tyres and sold them.
