A family member is looking at a Jayco Penguin off road and wants to know has onyone had expereance regarding the reliability of the standard o/r type leaf spring suspension. He doesn't intend doing any serious o/r work, any information regarding the reliability of the Penguin would be much appreciated.

I guess it depends on the year, you didn't say new or used. Leaf springs are a pretty good setup and easy enough to fix/replace.

not sure of the details ..... but some good friends of mine have a penguin , andthey have dragged it all over the country behind a BT50 without any dramas. Seems the suspension is up to the task if you ask me!

Cheers Chippy :D

Thanks for your replies, D4D it is a new Penguen he is looking at so I think he has a choice of leaf or independant, Chippy76 I wonder if your friends have leaf or independant suspension?

Yep,what he said, ;D   to be  honest, if hes not really going Off Road the leaf sprung arranged is fine, personally think the only advantage of the indepentant arrangment that Jayco use "Simplicity" is the tunnel clearance through the centre, I dont think it rides or handles any better than the standard leaf sprung beam axle arrangment...

Bushman that answers the question, now it's up to him, thank you for that. Chippie are you heading up this way or is that just a wish?  Great weather up here, shame to have to stay home, would rather be on the road...
