Ah, Fizzie, I have had that discussion so many times with various educators and their general response is that's a parents job.
Could be covered under a class called life skills, teach them all you suggested. Give them the basics about a broad range of subjects from finance, credit, superannuation, job applications, insurance, property etc
if God had meant me to walk he wouldn't have invented 4wds! Mitsubishi Challenger Pc 2014 (Blondie)

And something that should be taught.
Body Language.
The body can tell a completely different story to what is spoken.

Unfortunately, some parents leave that up to teachers.   :(

+ Shakespeare plays & the rest of "English" & all the other basically useless stuff :'( ::)

Just imagine for a moment what kids could be taught ...

Finances, budgeting, tax

Driving lessons, including defensive driving, basic maintenance like changing a tyre

Household management - cooking, shopping, bill paying

You know, stuff they'll actually need for the rest of their life! ::)
I went to a technical high school, learnt woodwork, metalwork, applied electricity. It was to prepare youngun's for a trade. Started an apprenticeship as motor mechanic, lasted 10 months. Went to the abattoir to earn some real money. Had three businesses from 1984 to 2017 when I retired. Learnt a lot about maintenance from my father because I didn't have an an electronic toy in my hands and would find myself watching in the shed with my brothers. I've rebuilt cars from the ground up renovated houses ,still at that one, my sons late 30s are handy the same as me, largely due to the fact , I believe because I wouldn't have a TV in the house when they were young. They now thank me for it which is heartwarming. Part of my story, get me around a camp fire & I'll talk to you about it. Sorry I have no time for MOST teachers but not all of them. PS I left school at 15

The real unfortunate thing is neither the parents or teachers have any clue 85% of the time (I think I might be generous here)
Most (not all) teachers have never left school and far too many parents never grew up enough before becoming parents

Agree. The best teachers I came across during my children's educational years had worked outside of education before turning to teaching, bar a couple

All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.
